He was Roman Catholic based on memorial service at Westminster Cathedral (not to be confused with Westminster Abbey, and this comment from his obituary -- "JOHN DERRINGTON CBE F.R.Eng., Passed away on Saturday, 9th February, 2008, aged 86. ... The funeral will be held at the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady Of Lourdes, Whiteway Lane, Rottingdean on Wednesday 27th February at 11.30 a.m. and will be followed by a reception at the East Brighton Golf Club, Roedean Road, Brighton.
