File:Jsimpson.JPG Nominated for speedy Deletion

[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Jsimpson.JPG, has been nominated for speedy deletion for the following reason: Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale as of 3 December 2011

What should I do?

Don't panic; you should have time to contest the deletion (although please review deletion guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to provide a fair use rationale
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale, then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Deletion Review

Disambiguation and new page needed if someone has a few minutes to do so.

[edit]

Someone should really do a disambiguation page and add an entry (stub or full article) for the neurologist with the same name (John Alexander Simpson), known for research on myasthenia gravis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myasthenia_gravis#History). Passed away on May 10, 2009. See https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/12394072.john-alexander-simpson/ . Not sure why there is an entry for the test he invented (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simpson_test) but not one on him, himself.

Personal life

[edit]

Notable in it's absence is a section on his personal life. I can add one personal anecdote: he was terrible at throwing parties. One night, he invited 10 or 12 of us, mostly a younger crowd. There were chips and soda, but the apartment was barren, and we sat on the sofa, twiddling our thumbs wondering what to talk about. I don't recall any music, although there was a flurry to get the stereo working. There weren't any girls. To dance with, anyway. Maybe the secretary showed up, I don't recall. Being an over-young science nerd, I did not understand the process of drinking alcohol or getting drunk; smoking dope and getting high is what I was hankering for, but there was none of that at this party. I think what this means is that he was a scientist 16 hours a day; frivolous things like decorating his apartment was far beyond his interests or grasp. No evidence of a soft womanly touch. This was circa 1978 or 1979, somewhere in Hyde Park. 67.198.37.16 (talk) 07:15, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
