According to this version, he became Kapellmeister of the Wiener Hofoper in 1880 and Vice Kapellmeister in 1894. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I tend to feel that a slip may have crept in (and the cited source isn't readily available to me). According to the brief Grove bio, he "worked as an opera conductor ... from 1880, at the Vienna Hofoper... [In 1894] he received the title of assistant Hofkapellmeister for his work at the court opera." Fuchs died on 5 October, not on the the 15th, cf. the newspaper "Neue Freie Presse", 6 October 1899, p. 5. He was burried in Vienna on the 8 October, cf. "Neue Frei Presse", 9 October 1899, p. 1.
