Schoepf/Schöpf/Schoepff and/or Schoepf(f)?

[edit]

This person was both a zoologist and a botanist. I am not sure what his abbreviation is in the field of zoology, but in botany it appears differently: according to his Harvard University Herbarium page, it is Schoepf (B&P and Standard/Label Name); according to his IPNI entry, it is Schöpf (Standard Form, no B&P given). Note that neither site spells the abbreviation with "ff", just one "f", but that they don't agree regarding Standard Form (assuming "Standard Form" and "Standard/Label" means the same thing). At the WP page List of botanists by author abbreviation, his entry shows "Schoepff" (double f); and at List of zoologists by author abbreviation, his entry is listed as "Schoepf(f)"

I would like to get some clarity on this before making further edits. Will someone help with this? Thanks, Hamamelis (talk) 19:14, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber referred to him as 'Schöpf' in his 1782 article 'Beytrag zur naturgeschichte der frösche' -- it was Schöpf who provided him with a cast and field notes used to describe Rana pipiens. Unless there is another Schöpf that was also a medic for the Brandenburg troops in America and also liked natural history, but I find that to be too many coincidences. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1010:B158:580D:A601:E49B:A3C0:7100 (talk) 11:54, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
