My grateful thanks to the person who expanded on what I posted about a week ago. My own contribution came from family recollections. Although I never met him, Joey was my great uncle, married to my blood relative on my mother's side, Ada nee Wildgoose. I realise now that the caps he won were not full internationals, but he did get the real thing nevertheless; I remember seeing one of them a long time ago. He also was awarded a gold medal by the South African F.A., as I am sure the rest of the team were.
What I am in possession of is a photograph of the after-match dinner, following the F.A. Cup Final between Arsenal and Huddersfield, the one Joey missed through injury. This must rank as unique, cetainly by modern standards, because it was attended by both teams and their wives, officials etc. Whilst he didn't actually play, he did attend the dinner with his wife, and he can be seen seated almost next to Chapman. Legend has it that the manager led both teams onto the field at Wembley that day, in recognition of his contribution to each club.DENVER (talk) 17:59, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
