[edit]The Rabbinical Assembly responsum "Women and the Minyan" [1] (pdf) states that the JTS faculty did NOT adapt the Roth (or any other) responsum when it voted to ordain women as rabbis:
"After a few years of debate, the Seminary faculty decided to admit women to the Rabbinical School in 1983. The decision of the faculty was based on the collective arguments of the faculty papers, without adopting any particular approach." --71.235.95.87 06:15, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Significant omission
[edit]The article omits the following item of history found at http://www.lukeford.net/profiles/profiles/danny_gordis.htm Does the source pass WP:RS?
"In 1993, Conservative legal scholar and Jewish Theological Seminary professor Joel Roth was disciplined for having an inappropriate relationship with a male student (reported in the Jewish Telegraphic Agency by Debra Nussbaum-Cohen). I wonder if that student was Danny Gordis? Gordis and Roth were close during the 1980s and they published responsa (answers to questions about Jewish law) together."
The question is, since Joel Roth is a major opponent of ordination of homosexual people as Rabbis, why is this item never shared with anyone? 83.216.95.46 08:59, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- The JTA's article is substantially more authoritative, and has been added as a reference in the article. Without registering for the full article, which requires a credit card, it is not yet possible to determine the gender of the student, nor the precise circumstances of the allegation 83.216.95.46 12:26, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
