"Touching the Void" secn

[edit]

WP has an article on Touching the Void. I have moved info more suitable to it than the accompanying article to talk#Touching the Void#Material from "Joe Simpson (mountaineer)" page for consideration of moves.

Song lyric

[edit]

I am inclined to share the believe of a colleague who added the following:

Simpson's experience is referenced in the lyrics of the song Ali in the Jungle<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.lyricsera.com/350086-lyric-The+Hours-Ali+In+The+Jungle.html%7Ctitle="Ali in the Jungle," Lyrics}}</ref> by the British band The Hours.

However, the belief that the cited lyrics page (containing the line "Like Simpson on the mountain,") could serve to verify that Joe Simpson is being referenced creates a sufficiently strong presumption that the (IP) contrib'r assumes that OR is admissible. It doesn't matter if it's true; we can't even consider whether its truth would be worthy of mention, when it seems so likely that there's no more evidence of its truth than the fact that it would make sense to choose it, if it were writ with him in mind.

Does anyone have any idea what the above justification means? It's garbled and convoluted and gives the impression the edit was made just to be dogmatic about some principle the editor can't even express. 'Writ' certainly doesn't mean what the editor thinks it does, for example. Hubertgrove (talk) 00:35, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
