Whoever keeps changing "jock itch" to "medical conditions" needs to cut it out. If the term jock itch was good enough for the LA Times story that is cited, it is good enough for wikipedia (TheWoat (talk) 21:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC))[reply]
Actually, this isn't a newspaper, its an encyclopedia. So the prose that would be acceptable in one isn't automatically acceptable in the other. We try to use more formal language, and "jock itch" isn't formal language. In fact, if you had read the articles in the LA Times from August, they used the medical term for quite some time, only using the term "jock itch" in quotes as its not a formal name. --Bobak (talk) 22:08, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since you keep wanting to insert the term "jock itch" without any serious refutation, I have added additional sources that --in conjunction with your provided source-- show that it was never clear whether it was tinea cruris or a case of chaffing. No article provides a definitive answer, however definitive sources can be given for the more serious injuries that hampered his season. --Bobak (talk) 15:34, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
McKnight was shot 3 times. Reported by tmz today. Gassed did not shoot him after he fell . Just shot him three times. Sounds like McKnight was reaching into gasser's car and that's when he got shot 3 times.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.66.190.150 (talk • contribs)
This Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department press conference includes a verbal report from the Coroner that the nature of his gunshot wounds does not suggest that he was shot from above, ie while lying on the ground. In the absence of more detailed evidence I think at this stage we should try to avoid being too specific about what happened. The Sheriff said he would say more as soon as he could. I'm going to try to make a couple of edits to reflect that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rrz4FxQd64EvidenceFairy (talk) 04:08, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I made the changes but they were changed again, so I inserted a new sentence with citation to an updated media report. Early media reports claiming the victim was shot after having fallen to the ground have been refuted by law enforcement, based partly on the autopsy results. I think it is useful to state this in the entry, because it partly explains some of the claims made in the demonstration that followed the incident.--EvidenceFairy (talk) 10:18, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I only take issue with the statement that McKnight was "reportedly unarmed". He WAS unarmed. If you are going to report hearsay police statements, which was derived exclusively from the killer, as fact, then you have to report as fact that he was unarmed. There is NOBODY who disputes that. Why put that critical fact in weasel words? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:C551:BE20:99F7:F146:7BA2:33B0 (talk) 09:42, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Everything at this stage of an investigation is "reportedly" because no court has made a finding of fact yet. I prefer to err on the side of caution and avoid making claims I can't support with sources that are likely to be seen as credible by an impartial observer. It's reasonable to assume that this case will revolve around what Gasser says he believed at the time about whether he was under threat of some kind. It is not necessary for the other person to be armed, for someone to believe they are under threat. The court will determine whether it believes Gasser or not. It's also a bit unreasonable to assume that comments made by the Sheriff are automatically non credible, just because they are partly or fully based on information from Gasser. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia based on published sources, not a political debate forum. EvidenceFairy (talk) 04:23, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think there should be a new wikipedia entry "Death of Joe McKnight" as there will be much more coverage and it will take most of that material out of the main biography article. I'm new so haven't learned how to start a new page, but will contribute text and sources to it. EvidenceFairy (talk) 23:05, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
