"Black government"?
[edit]I am at a loss as to what the following sentence means: "However, the jive including other swing dances was not approved by the black government." It seems as though the sentence is written to imply the leaders of some country, but that does not fit really well with the rest of the article. Is there perhaps another word that can be used instead of 'government' that would be less ambiguous? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wsauer (talk • contribs) 19:51, 29 March 2007 (UTC).
speed error
[edit]shouldn't "bpm" read "measures per minute" instead? Usually "bpm" means beats per minute, not bars per minute. This means the values are off by the factor 4.
- I'm completely agreed with you on that. I have never seen the acronym 'bpm' being used to mean 'bars per minute'. I feel this could be confusing to some people reading this article. I'll make a change to that which can be corrected if necessary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.234.4.10 (talk) 07:42, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
Basic Step
[edit]The "Basic Step" section claims it's an\Chris brown step, but it only includes 6 counts. What gives? (Some cats are hep to the jive and some cats aren't.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by MiguelMunoz (talk • contribs) 08:10, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
The a in 3 a4 and 5 a6 is a step as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.203.191.158 (talk) 17:15, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
I've done some research in the Internet and it seems that the base step indeed takes 6 counts (=3 beats), which it less than a bar (= 4 beats = 8 counts). And the "ands" between counts are half-counts. So when one dances just the base step it "shifts" through the bar 212.92.184.235 (talk) 23:12, 3 February 2009 (UTC) Chris brown
What's that supposed to mean??
[edit]"The Stationary Hand Jive - Checklist to the perfect SJH: F - Face. The face must be emotionless. A - Arms. The arms must be the only part of the body to move. S - Stationary. The rest of the body must be totally still. T - Tertiary attributes. There must be no other sounds or movements." -- megA (talk) 18:06, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
At best, it's off-topic. I removed it. Marc W. Abel (talk) 22:02, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
How fast is fast?
[edit]"Overall Jive is a dance and is the faster version of the swing." Is it? Lindy Hop is frequently danced at upwards of 200bpm or even 300bpm. See for example the Lindy Hop scene from Hellzapoppin'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.111.163.130 (talk) 12:23, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Not much of a video. Not only is its quality really low, but it shows also just a performance with its stress on giving a show which does not help an unfamiliar reader much in understanding how the actual ballroom dance goes. There's a wealth of good explanatory videos on Youtube (and other portals), should be easy to find a replacement. --85.253.64.90 (talk) 17:39, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
Tempo
[edit]International style jive
[edit]The dance is mostly done on the balls of the feet. International style jive is described in any basic ballroom dancing textbook, and is danced with the latin dances in international competitions. The technique books describe it as 42/44 bars per minute, or 40-46 bars per minute, and the sources respectively are Laird, Walter 1988. Technique of Latin dancing, and The revised technique of Latin American dancing. Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing 1993..Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:36, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
