Talk:Jimmy Kudo
The characters use their Americanized names according to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (anime- and manga-related articles). Wikipedia:Manual of Style (anime- and manga-related articles) has stated [u]se the official English names over the transliteration of the Japanese. At this time specifically the names for versions in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Ireland are to be used instead of names used in Southeast Asian English versions. Any discussion on that policy should be directed to the guideline's talk page. |

Jodie
[edit]Really..... ><
Jodie Starling doesnt know his identity, Akemi shouldn't be listed as she is dead in canon and movies should be regarded as non-canonical; besides after movie 6 Hiroki didn't exist anymore.
Jodie: Her-- and also some of her fellow agents'-- knowledge of Conan's identity is implicit; it's never been explicit.
Akemi: She knew that; it cannot be refuted. Whether she's dead is another matter; I would add a limiter to that effect.
Hiroki: 1. His death: see about Akemi above. 2. His canon status: I am a vocal opponent of putting Movie 6 as canon. But since this idea lacked cosensus, and prima facie evidence say it is so (if one tend not to analyse), so I would put his name here until there is such a cosensus.

Cleanup
[edit]This article is tagged for cleanup, but what do you think what can we do for it?
add some pictures episode information, a wider range of character stats thet kind of thing do the same thing for rachel.
Agree. This article seems to made by a Shinichi/Conan x Haibara Ai pairing's lover. There's no much of Rachel/Ran information, despite her presence is important to Jimmy/Conan in the story. 125.163.15.134 12:44, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Its still important, its not like the series is a romance but their relationship seems to be "more then just friends" just because they're the only ones stuck as kids. They're close and there are some moments. Then again, its kind of the same for Ran and Shinichi. And obviously they both want it to be more. Voices
[edit]Does someone else do the dubs for conan in the movies? He sounds different for some reason KaidenShiba (talk 23:23 8 january (Central) —Preceding comment was added at 05:24, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- Alison Retzloff is the voice actor for Conan in the American Verson. Jerry Jewell plays Jimmy and The Phantom Thief in the American Verson. The movies use the same voice actors as far as I know. -Prede (talk) 23:59, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Change all reference toward localized names into the originals
[edit]Seriously, I think it's unproper to use localized name of america version. I almost laughed out loud when reading the entire pages of this entry on wikipedia. 202.146.253.15 10:08, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
It is sorry that we cannot. We have not even get a conclusion on the naming conventions for DC/CC, and for that reason we have to stick with the CC names. See: Talk:Case Closed for some discussion on this topic-- and maybe you can make some contributions. Samuel Curtis 12:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
It's not just the US - Canadian and British versions use the same names! WhisperToMe 06:17, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I agree. It takes me a couple of seconds to realize who Jimmy is. Even though I have all 58 volumes (of DC) in my possession. I will always think of Edogawa Conan and Shinichi Kudo first. I say we use the name the author intended. It's not like you can't pronounce it or anything, it's perfectly readable in english. Vae 17:08, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Unlike you guys, when I read the name Ran kind of forget that its Rachel. Its easier to read it with all the characters being in English. If you want the names in Japanese then just read the Japanese pages. Sorry guys. Then again, that's why the names are usually kept the same alexyasha 20:45, jan 8 2008, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.237.214.67 (talk) 04:47, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- Update it is true that the Singapore-published Shogakukan Asia editions, distributed in four English-speaking territories (Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei) use the original Japanese names, but the userbase so far still is preferring the Viz and Funimation names, used in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Ireland. Infobox
[edit]I think we should make an infobox for this article as well as any of the DC articles who don't. It will clear away clutter concerning voice actors, birthday, other personal information like that. A new picture without credits would be a plus also... - Jezebel Parks 04:15, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Plans to rewrite this article.
[edit]This article of course has not much a problem on itself (It is the highest-graded DC/CC-related article in English WP.), but I want to reorganize it to fit it in an chronological order, especially much of Jimmy's childhood have been revealed. I wonder if any would support this. --Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 12:58, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have to disagree. There are A LOT of things wrong with this article. It is extremely messy, with an out-of-control trivia section that keeps getting bigger, completely disregarding the WP:Trivia guidelines. Not only that, but there is too much unneeded information within the article itself which I think needs to be deleted. As I said before, infoboxes would help with this. The only reason I have not done so myself is because I honestly don't know how to make them. If we take care of the above, along with grammar, the article would, in my opinion, be much MUCH better. Jezebel Parks 17:51, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know what you are disagreeing at; I aim at organizing the current content better. Damn anons, they just aim at adding fancruft.--Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 01:00, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I must have misunderstoof the "has not much of a problem" part. But yes, the anons are annoying. Jezebel Parks 01:12, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have started rewriting at User:Samuel Curtis/Jimmy Kudo; but is far from finished. --Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 19:17, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

- I have made a great deal of improvements in my temp article User:Samuel Curtis/Jimmy Kudo; even I agree that much have to be deisred, especially I'm not an expert on his relationship with Ai/Anita, but please comment on how I did so far.--Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 21:18, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Split nomination
[edit]I have some belief that the section on Conan's gadget's should be split in another section since if they are to be elaborated, even without risking falling into fancruft, it would be very long. Hence I nominate the section to be split to List of Conan Edogawa's gadgets. Opinions?--Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 16:21, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, since there is already a "List of Inventions" in Agasa's page, I think we should combine both to make a new article -Thriceplus 16:31, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- Agasa had more inventions (or attempted but failed ones) than the ones he gave Conan. For example, the rainbow fireworks that nearly killed Takagi-- even that invention should be considered a success since Agasa was beaten unconscious before he started the fireworks.--Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 18:52, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- In that case, why not call the article "List of Dr. Agasa's inventions"? That will encompass all of Conan's devices (since they are invented by Agasa) in addition to Agasa's own inventions. -Thriceplus 22:44, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Relationship with Rachel
[edit]I'm just a passerby and noticed a mistake. The last sentence about Jimmy seeing Rachel in a bathing suit is incorrect, Rachel never wore a bathing suit. In the Japanese version, what really happened was that Rachel was nude while bathing Jimmy. Since I'm not sure if there's also a Japanese section, I decided not to change it. If anyone wants, I can include a scanlation of the chapter that confirms it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.38.161.182 (talk) 05:54, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- This is emphatically false. Yes, early on in the series, Ran (Rachel) bathes Conan and he saw her nude; but later on in the series he sees her in a swim suit several times. The most memorable perhaps is the one where Sonoko (Serena) sends a snapshot of Ran in a swimsuit to Conan's cell phone. He gets very red and his nose gushes. I think this is the scene that's being referenced in the article. The manga volume 48, anime 411 and 412, "The Shinto Shrine Code". --Snuzzled (talk) 05:19, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Picture
[edit]The picture looks kinda old so I suggest you there should be two separate pictures that are put in the info box of Conan and Shinichi, preferably a screenshot from the anime.Dragonsblast (talk) 01:02, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Merge of Jimmy and Conan article.
[edit]I think I can get it to work but need other's opinion. I'll see if I could follow Ichigo Kurosaki's organization.DragonZero (talk) 06:41, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Since it'd be a major change, I recommend you to use your userspace as a sandbox to implement those changes first. Too bad the SDB's and Movie guides I have are in Hong Kong, not the US.--Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 04:21, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Picture Mistake
[edit]The picture of the white-dressed Gentleman in the "Plot Overview"-Section, saying:
"Shinichi Kudo solving a case before he turns out into Conan Edogawa"
shows neither Shinichi Kudo, nor Conan Edogawa, but one of their antagonists, the Phantom Thief Kid.
Please correct that mistake. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.224.121.104 (talk) 00:31, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Conan's Age
[edit]In the Manga (Volume 1, File 2) just before She asks Conan's name she asked him how old he was, and his answer was that he was 6. to which she responded then you must be in first grade, When the the scene was recreated ins Episode 2 that was left out. But in the little scene after the credits, Conan does his intro to his new class, he complain about having start primary school again, show they have not changed his age. (Though Funimation's promotional material called him 7) Then In Movie 1, the sub plot is it is Shin'ichi's (Jimmy's) 17th Birthday (Volume 1, File 1 intro dunces him as 16). Then in Movie 3, Conan reveals in front of Ran his birthday is on the same day as Shin'ichi, making Conan now 7 --Roguebfl (talk) 21:52, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Section deletion
[edit]I think the sections relationships, and secrets should be deleted. The secret parts should be merged with their respective characters though. DragonZero (talk) 02:14, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
- I personally would not object to your deletions, but since much of the (previous) content was of my own writing, maybe you can elaborate a bit.--Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 18:41, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Source for APTX 4869
[edit]I was wondering what the source for the APTX 4869 was, I have only read the manga but I am pretty sure only a small amount of that section is mentioned. JE19426 (talk) 20:07, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
- All of it has been mentioned. DragonZero (talk · contribs) 06:05, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Telomerase?
[edit]Shouldn't we put a "in-a-nutshell" meaning of this word on the page for those people that doesn't understand it? Like me? ~kotarou3 20:11, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I plan on redoing this page when I have time, so I'll get to it. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 01:34, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Request for clarification
[edit]According to this page, "Jimmy" is known "in Japan and internationally as Shinichi Kudo". So where is he known as Jimmy, then? It would be nice if someone familiar could edit this information in and remove what appears to be Americentrism from the page? Kanjo Kotr (talk) 14:44, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Kanjo Kotr: I checked with Viz Media. The Viz English version, which calls him Jimmy, is distributed to the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Ireland. The Shogakukan Asia version, which calls him by his original Japanese name, is distributed to these English-speaking areas: Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei. (Thailand and Indonesia are also in the company's distribution area but I do not count them as English-speaking). WhisperToMe (talk) 03:36, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Phuongdong0701: I appreciate your enthusiasm, but currently the consensus established by Wikipedia editors is to use "Jimmy Kudo", which is used by English translations of the manga in the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland. There are English versions of the manga which use "Shinichi Kudo" and those are distributed in Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, and Indonesia (the latter two I do not count as English speaking countries). Now it is possible for consensus to change, but that may be difficult here. I had stated here and elsewhere that if English speaking versions of Detective Conan appear in India that use the original Japanese character names, I would make a mass move request that would be decided by conesnsus.
