Other Varney credits?

When I was taking French classes in college, we were shown cards with the french words for emotions on the back and black and white photos of Jim Varney in all his rubber-faced glory on the front - making exaggerated faces to demonstrate the emotion. These were really funny - I think they got stolen or something, since I never saw them again in the language lab. I also wondered if anyone else had any information regarding a video I saw years ago called "Ernest's Family Album" - my favorite character was the snake wrangler from the christmas movie and, from what I remember, it is used heavily on that video. -zb —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zbarnett (talkcontribs) 19:45, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Part Cherokee

I swear I heard E! True Hollywood Story say he was part Cherokee or some other type of Native American, but I can't find any verification. What is the truth? JCM, 9/1/6

Believe me when I say this, everyone around here has a bit of cherokee blood. ("here" being the Appalachians) — ᚹᚩᛞᛖᚾᚻᛖᛚᛗ (talk) 03:23, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Time of death

I certainly agree with the inclusion of his date of death, but is the time of his death encyclopedic? Is it with anyone, other than perhaps an assassinated world leader (e.g., Kennedy), or an event seen on live TV (e.g., Oswald)? Rlquall 00:14, 11 May 2005 (UTC)

It may not be absolutely necessary, but its not as if this article is overly wordy or something. There's no reason to remove the time of death.

Ex-wives

Does anybody know the maiden name of either of Varney's wives? I really don't think it's proper to give their names as Jackie Varney and Jane Varney. It makes it seem as if Varney is their maiden name. — NRen2k5 18:40, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Has either of his ex-wives written a book on him, or is it a chapter in their lives they'd like to forget?

That hunting show

He as a goofy character on that hunting show featuring Jackie Bushman. How come that isn't featured? I think it was called Buckmasters.

Spot?

what spot is this???? the following is included in the information around his death...

The spot involved Ernest trying to convince Vern, Ernest's unseen friend, to quit smoking, thus avoiding "The Big 'C'": cancer. The spot was included in a 1986 home video collection of Ernest commercials. Robkehr

Ernest the Pirate

Does anyone have a source to the Ernest the Pirate story. I did a lexis-nexis search and found nothing. Is it just a rumor from how he looked before he passed that has become an internet meme? Because, I can't find a legit source that mentions anything about it. XinJeisan 14:57, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

As I was reading this someone vandalized the intro so I reverted it. Ironically I came to the site because of the Family Guy episode featuring Jim Varney and I think people decided to come on here to vandalize it at that point. --NateDSaint 02:01, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Ads ...

the article mentions that he did a lot of ads with the ernest character, but the only ones i remember seeing were for ( i think ) some big appliance / electronics chain, like abc warehouse or something. he did a series of ads for this one company. that's where i saw ernest for the first time. the wikipedia article doesn't mention it, does anyone remember these particular ads? Ah3133 01:23, 11 September 2007 (UTC)ah3133

He also did many ads for some brand of lemon-lime soda. I don't remember which one of the many brands sold nation-wide, but I do remember it was NOT Mountain Dew. One I remember was Ernest on a ladder, taunting Vern with a can of soda as he's repairing his roof. All the while Ernest is talking about how refreshing the soda is on a hot day- he keeps pulling it away as Vern reaches for it. Finally, Ernest finishes the soda with a loud slurp and says "Y'know that the sound means, Vern? Empty!" Vern then kicks the ladder and it falls backwards, which was one of the common gags he did with the Ernest charachter. Another common Ernest gag, used often in commercials, was Ernest "repairing" a broken furnace or other appliance and saying "I think I know what the problem is. See that little wire? It looks like it's got a (grabs the live wire and shakes as if being electrocuted) sho-o-or-r-rrrt in it!". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.100.251.118 (talk) 02:23, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

You are thinking of the drink "Mellow Yellow". He did many commercials for that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.166.23.133 (talk) 18:00, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Terbacky

He died of lung cancer. Was he a smoker?Lestrade (talk) 20:21, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Lestrade

Yes, Jim Varney was a heavy smoker. According to the E! True Hollywood Story episode on him, he started smoking after seeing Sean Connery as James Bond smoke. In that same episode, Jim's sister talked about how he always smoked non-flitered cigarettes. More to the point, there would be occasions where while shooting movies, Jim would be hacking and coughing pretty badly, yet he would continue to light up. He however, tried really hard to not allow himself to be photographed smoking because he didn't want to upset kids who loved his Ernest character. TMC1982 (talk) 03:00 a.m., 16 August 2009 (UTC)

FAME

"Ernest P. Worrell... The character was used in numerous television commercial campaigns and movies in the following years, giving him fame worldwide." Not Really! Neither the actor nor his character are known outside the american continent. The Ernest serie has never been shown in Europe for example.

I'm in Britain, and I've seen the Ernest films; and so have many people that I know. Nicander (talk) 14:56, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Picture

If someone could find a free image of Jim Varney, that'd be great. Tinton5 (talk) 17:35, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Ernest picture

There's no Ernest picture? For those who aren't acquainted with Jim Varney, I think it's unfortunate that there is not way of knowing what his most famous character looks like without looking elsewhere. Does anybody know of any free pictures of Ernest P. Worrell? 67.182.237.57 (talk) 07:17, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

The Ernest Smoking PSA

The article claims Varney made the smoking PSA after he was diagnosed with cancer. However, there is no source, and other sites and people claim the PSA was made well before he was diagnosed. Does anyone have a source that can eradicate any doubt? 71.126.229.217 (talk) 21:51, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
