[edit]The statement that Herman was syndicated in communist East Germany in 1990 is doubtful and should be further specified. The Berlin Wall came down in November 1989, and a new democratic Parliament was elected in March 1990. East Germany ceased to exist as a separate state in October 1990 when it reunited with West Germany. Even if Herman was syndicated before March 1990, the political situation in East Germany had sufficiently changed back then to make the syndication essentially trivial. There was no communist regime ruling in 1990 that could have seriously hindered the syndication. If Jim Ungers humorous statement is correct that Herman caused the wall to come down "6 months later", the syndication must have occurred in 1989, not 1990.

From the opening page of Herman Over the Wall: The Seventh Treasury (1990):
EDITOR & PUBLISHER for February 10, 1990
'Herman' comic in East Germany
"Herman" by Jim Unger of Universal Press Syndicate is now appearing in East Germany.
"There have been other comic features sold in the Eastern bloc, but 'Herman' will be the first to appear in newspapers," believes Editors Press Service John P. Klem. "This is definitely an important step - real evidence that the Berlin Wall has crumbled."

Hope this helps clarifying things.

Birth year
[edit]Online, a number of sources claim Unger's birth year was 1940 ("just in time for the Blitz"), and a number of others say 1937. Does anyone know for sure which it is? CüRlyTüRkeyTalkContribs 11:29, 5 June 2011 (UTC) In Herman's First Treasury, Unger claims when he was born, no newspapers were allowed in the ward so he is not sure of the exact date, but he knows he's an Aquarius. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.111.192.76 (talk) 16:23, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Plagiarism?
[edit]Well, this is embarrassing. It looks like about half the text on this page is lifted straight out of this article.
I'll see if I can get around to rewording it sometime. CüRlyTüRkeyTalkContribs 13:28, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
I corrected the article to his being survived by his two sisters (not daughters) and brother as per http://www.globalmontreal.com/canada/jim+unger+creator+of+herman+cartoon+strip+dies+at+75+in+bc+home/6442651022/story.html however when I try to edit references nothing but the first footnote shows, I'd like to change number 8 -- Ralphsiegler — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ralphsiegler (talk • contribs) 17:30, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
