[edit]

Why does this article have the title of 'Jim Smith (footballer)? He isn't a footballer anymore. --TwentiethApril1986 (talk) 13:49, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He isn't a manager any more either, he is a director. The point is to distinguish him from other Jim Smiths, which (Manager) doesn't really do effectively, as it doesn't actually mention football. I agree that he is probably better known as a football manager than a footballer, in which case there is an argument for a move to Jim Smith (football manager), but the WP:FOOTY convention seems to be to go with (footballer) for any managers that played the game. I guess this is because a) this is where they established their notability (even if they went on to become more notable as a manager) and b) for simplicity, it saves arguments about whether they were more notable as a player or as a manager. I will raise this at WPFOOTY to get some consensus as to what the article name should be. --Jameboy (talk) 10:03, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
