Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't JR and King at some point have a match against Hassan and Daivari? I'd add it to the match list, but I don't remember when or even if it happened. --24.158.179.87 05:25, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
I remember that they did have that match, plus i remember that Ross once had a match with Sold Cold Steve Austin too.
- JR got beaten badly by Austin but never had a match against each other... JR did not have a tag match but was ringside, along with Daivari, during a match between Lawler and Hassan --- Paulley 14:09, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- Couldn't something be said about the "New/Fake" Razor and Diesel inncident back in the 90s? That was his idea if I recall.
There is currently NOTHING between leaving WCW and the storyline last year about him being fired. Plus, some of the tense and facts are incorrect, as they were written at the time.
Conflicting Reports
This article seems to be written all in character, trying not to break kayfabe. Other articles on Wikipedia(Kayfabe) state that he wasn't actually fired, but recovering from colon surgery. Surely that should be mentioned here. 209.33.36.146 00:06, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
The answer is emphatically yes: He is the lead announcer for the return of WWE's Saturday Night Main Event on NBC. The first scheduled live broadcast is on 3/18/06.
He was released - but they needed somebody right away to
do the Saturday announcing chores.
Ross was never fired and his current contract expires later this year, he was just removed from TV. --- TJ Spyke 01:21, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
More on Jim Ross
I remember that back in early 1999, like sometime in March, Jim Ross was a heel since he just came back from having bells palsey and was mad at WWE for not bringing him back. He ordered Dr. Death Steve Williams to take people out, and I remember them constructing a new announce table just for Jim Ross right in front of the regular announce table. I'm wondering whether any of this should be added into the article or it is just more of the same and doesn't need to be said.
- This stuff does need to be added, among other things. There is a huge 10 year gap in this article. We know nearly nothing about his first 10 years in WWE. Off the top of my head, he debuted at WrestleMania in 1993, was legitimetly fired twice, left the booth from late 98 to early 99 due to Bells Palsey (and I think earlier on as well). He was the third man in the both with Vince and King for a while, becoming the lead announcer in late 97 when Vince became "Mr. McMahon.". And obviously there's a lot more. I would like to see more info on here on Jim Ross's role as an executive for WWE. Is it just a storyline thing or does he work with the day to day affairs of the company and if so what does he do? Iheartadventures 06:25, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Does anybody know who inducted JR. to the wwe hall of fame???Urena198 00:46, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Stone Cold Steve Austin. Try looking at wrestling sites before posting something like this. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a forum.--Hndsmepete 02:04, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Mark Henry and Taboo Tuesday '05
It says that Mark Henry and the Coach were going to team together to face Stone Cold Steve Austin. But we all know that Mark Henry made his return on Smackdown. Unless someone has concrete evidence that Mark Henry was scheduled to be at Taboo Tuesday, then I feel that it should be removed. fishhead2100 May 1, 2006 2:05PM (UTC)
- It was always going to be Coach vs. Austin. I did hear that Henry was going to cost Austin the match, but it was never going to be a handicap match. Mshake3 00:11, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Quotes
I've just added a "quotes" section to J.R.'s page. It just mentions his expressions like "governemnt mules" and other things that he says.
Oops, I didn't notice that Wikipedia has a collection of his phrases. Should I delete the quotes I've put on his main page? Most of what I said is already in the collection.
leave WWE
there a remore that JR is leave WWE can we confrimed these?
- WHAT?????83.67.75.213 12:59, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
J.R.'s Career section starts off like this:
"Shortly after the buy out Ross went to work for Bill Watts in Mid-South, becoming their lead play-by-play man in 1986."
...Huh? What buyout? Looks like someone deleted that. Can someone that knows fill in the information beforehand, like what buyout they're referencing here?Anakinjmt 03:39, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
He was working week to week but confirmed on his blog site now that he has a long term (undisclosed ) contractMibo123 09:56, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
How much is kayfabe?
Pretty good article, but I have to wonder how much of it is kayfabe versus actual information about his career? One reason I'm somewhat skeptical about parts of the article is that according to public SEC filings Jim Ross was, as recently as August 2005, an executive vice president and major shareholder in WWE. (I originally found this out pretty much by accident while considering investing in the company.) So while his on-screen persona is that of merely a ring side commentator with little actual power or influence in the WWE organization, in actuality he ranked just behind Linda McMahon in terms of stocks held and, presumably, behind the scene influence as recently as a year and a half ago.
It would be interesting if someone could actually do a little additional digging on reliable business related sources to see if anything can be found out to seperate Jim Ross the executive vice president from "Good Ol' JR" the kayfabe persona. Dugwiki 23:15, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- From what I understand, his character is pretty much his personality, sorta like CM Punk's is. I think it's common knowledge that he was Executive VP of Talent Relations, in addition to being RAW play-by-play commentator. Anakinjmt 15:41, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
What's this?
Something peculiarly has been added in the first paragraph, "Jim Ross is a great man who is not very well known but should be". It also contains no full stop, and seems to be someone who has decided to all of a sudden add it due to their own personal opinion... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.154.249.129 (talk) 09:10, 8 March 2007 (UTC).
Weight
Seriously, does JR really weigh in at 93 kg? I find that hard to believe.. He's got to be at least 100kg or so. Paul London's weight is 93kg and it just seems so wrong that these two would be equally heavy.. 194.68.104.18 10:29, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Who cares how much JR weighs?
Jim's WCW Days
Jim Ross was in WCW as well. I have some old WCW trading cards with Sting (back in his 1980 days) and there are some Jim Ross cards. Jim Ross was an announcer for WCW as well. I'm ImmortalKaine BTW 70.49.207.65 04:04, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Picture From Autobiography
I'm pretty sure JR brought out an autobiography, which would be a justified picture for the infobox???Macca7174 11:43, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Trivia
This article contains a list of miscellaneous information. (June 2007) |
This article possibly contains original research. (October 2007) |
- Ross, despite not being a wrestler, has defeated Triple H in the three matches they have had together.
- The first JR WWF action figure was made with a defect; on JR's jacket it was supposed to say, "War Zone" but instead it said, "War Tony."
- Despite the fact that he was working for the WWF at the time, JR was the last voice heard on the very last WCW Monday Nitro.
- JR's entrance theme is "Boomer Sooner", the fight song of the University of Oklahoma.
- Ross is a member of Phi Lambda Chi Fraternity from his college days at Northeastern State University.
- Wrestler Mick Foley makes several references to J.R in all his books, and mentions that his screamed ("As God as my witness, he is broken in half!") commentary of the infamous 1998 Hell in a Cell match was the best sports commentary of all time. He also expressed his disdain for the McMahon-helmed skit about J.R's colon surgery.

J.R.'s injuries
I would like the list of injuries J.R. has suffered during his WWE tenure to be returned to the page. They are a true example of deciation Jim Ross has, by taking all of that abuse and still staying with WWETonyWWE 23:49, 16 June 2007 (UTC) TonyWWE
