"Greer's sudden and surprise guilty plea to charges that he used a consulting firm to steal money from the state party, after years of proclaiming his innocence, spared a parade of powerful politicians from certain embarrassment. Asked if anyone had paid money to Greer in return for his guilty plea, his Attorney Damon Chase responded by email: "I can neither confirm nor deny it. Sorry.
The criminal case against Greer also involved the existance of a severance agreement between Greer and the Republican Party, which was revealed during the case which Party leaders had signed and denied existed.
The signatures of incoming House Speaker Dean Cannon and incoming Senate President Mike Haridopolous also appear, along with Johnson and two other state party officials.
According to the agreement, the state party would agree that all official expenditures made under Greer "were proper, lawful, appropriate and served the interests of the RPOF."
It also said the state party would agree "to release a written statement to the press publicly praising and acknowledging Greer's service and accomplishments" on the date Greer announced his resignation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Florida Weekly (talk • contribs) 01:35, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
