No association with The Exodus Movement
[edit]I dont have privilege to edit the page, but TheExodusMovement.com is not the website associated with this entity and is completely separate. FEC filings show Exodus Movement is part of something called Red Sea Rising PAC and no relation to this initial push for Jews to leave the democratic party. The Exodus Movement wiki page also goes into detail with sources about how this is not attached — Preceding unsigned comment added by StarKB1985 (talk • contribs) 20:04, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
- According to The New York Times The Exodus Movement is Jexodus, rebranded [1].
Perhaps the articles should be merged? Now I see there is a dispute about whether they are independent or not, withdrawn suggestion to merge. ☆ Bri (talk) 20:12, 1 December 2019 (UTC)- @Bri: see below. Doug Weller talk 20:33, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Jexodus = leaving Judaism?
[edit]Is "Jexodus" limited to leaving a political party, or does it extend to leaving Judaism or perceived liberalizing core doctrines of Judaism altogether? Hyperbolick (talk) 14:12, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Jexodus.org says "JEXODUS NEVER AGAIN NOW SITE COMING SOON" and links to a donation page
[edit]The donation page says "Jexodus has applied to the IRS for 501(c)(3) status. Donations will be tax-deductible if the IRS approves our application for tax-exempt status. We expect the IRS to approve our application, but we may have to wait several months for an answer. If approved, our tax-exempt status would be retroactive to March 5, 2019. Any donations made after that date would be tax-deductible to the extent allowable on your 2019 tax return. Our attorneys assure us that it is common for a new charity to accept donations while its IRS application is pending."
I don't see how the website relates to this article. Doug Weller talk 17:25, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- Did you see this page? Drmies (talk) 17:27, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
(edit conflict) :Ha. A search for Jexodus never again turned up a subpage.[2]. That leads to a mission page: "Jexodus is a non-partisan nonprofit that unites people of good will – regardless of faith, ethnicity, identity, and political affiliation – around the simple, formerly non-controversial idea that Anti-Semitism must never be mainstreamed by the media or by any political party." There's a resolution also.[3] This is a mess, as this article says Jexodus is trying to get Jews to skip parties and the website denies that. {{re|Drmies|| what do you think? StarKB1985 happy about redirecting this to The Exodus movement
[edit]And I've used one of his sources there that says: "Jexodus may have gotten the hint on the name. On Thursday, its leaders announced that they were rebranding it “the Exodus Movement,” an initiative of Red Sea Rising, incorporated by Ms. Pipko as a tax-exempt “social welfare” organization. On Wednesday afternoon, the Jexodus.org website was taken down; a new one, TheExodusMovement.com, went live on Thursday." It looks as though someone else has taken over the website. Doug Weller talk 17:55, 2 December 2019 (UTC) It needs a rename to The Exodus Movement though. Doug Weller talk 17:56, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- I agree with renaming. Drmies (talk) 21:33, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- Comment - if the consensus is to rename, this article should be moved to the new title.Onel5969 TT me 18:29, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
- Move this should be a no brainer. To make this particular article accurately reflect its website, I've had to add an edit that contradicts the rest of the article, ie that it has a nonpartisan mission to fight antisemitism. Nothing to do with leaving or joining a party. I was about to file a move request but hopefully that won't be necessary. I really should have been a merge as we'll probably want some material from the The Exodus Movement article. Doug Weller talk 19:54, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
- I think Move makes more sense as I've stated elsewhere. But at a minimum renaming this page to The Exodus Movement instead of saying "Jexodus, aka TheExodusMovement.com" because thats blatantly incorrect. And put information from the Exodus Movement wiki page into here. If you go to Jexodus donate page you see this message "Please note that Jexodus was a 2020 ARI project. The jexodus.org/donate URL will direct all donations to ARI." If you go to TheExodusMovement.com website you see that it's "Paid for by Red Sea Rising PAC." They dont have the same disclaimers and it appears based on the word "was" the Jexodus group isnt active while The Exodus Movement has activity as late as 24 hours ago?. - Support, for a name change. The organization/initiative didn't keep the name Jexodus but for a month. It has been known as The Exodus Movement for over two years now. Time to change the page name. Platonk (talk) 19:37, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Doesn’t seem to ever have been listed at Wikipedia:requested moves. Hyperbolick (talk) 21:15, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Hyperbolick: I have a request in to change the permissions of this page so I can make an edit to it, showing the name change (with citations). Then I'll put in a request to change the name or move. Platonk (talk) 21:35, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Seems the thing to do, yes. I'd support it. Hyperbolick (talk) 22:43, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Hyperbolick: I got the page name changed, and re-arranged some of the info. Let me know what you think. Platonk (talk) 02:19, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, very good. Hyperbolick (talk) 22:35, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
