dance in israel

[edit]

"Dance in Israel" should not be redirected to Jewish dance. Dance culture in Israel is not only Jewish, and deserves an article of its own.--Gilabrand (talk) 06:17, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree strongly with this. There is also a ton of diaspora Jewish dance connection that is lost here: Jewish tangos from Poland, Jewish social dancing in NYC during the interwar years and later, immigrant innovations in the various places Jews immigrated to... 69.202.137.68 (talk) 13:37, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish dance in America

[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I will be adding a section to this article on Jewish dance in America. I have read Dancing Jewish: Jewish Identity in American Modern and Postmodern Dance by Rebecca Rossen, a dance historian and professor at The University of Texas at Austin. This book is about the influence of Jewish modern dance in America and the impact it had on the dance community. The Jewish dance article on Wikipedia is a very brief article and is missing a large amount of information on modern Jewish dance. There is a small section on Jewish modern dance in Israel but more information on this form of dance in other locations around the world would be important to add. I want to write specifically on Jewish modern dance in America because it was used as a form of advocacy, bringing attention to current events. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, choreographers were using modern dance as a way to express the emotional response to the persecution of Jews in Europe. I would also like to write about the roots of Jewish modern dance in America and the effect it had on the dance community as well as the Jewish community. Altogether I'll add about 8-10 sentences. If anyone wants to comment on these changes, please let me know on this Talk Page or on my Talk Page. Ellap18 (talk) 03:19, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
