[edit]By definition, Jett Williams is not an 'illegitimate' child. She was born out of wedlock, but that is not, by itself, enough to deem her, in any legal sense, 'illegitimate'. If a father acknowledges paternity, or a court deems that the child in question is the offspring of said person, both of which conditions were met here, the said child is by rights, the legally recognized product of a marriage or relationship. Not being married to the child's mother does not, by itself, make one illegitimate. A simple act like naming the child in your will as your son or daughter has the same force of law being married to the child's mother at time of birth.
DNA test?
[edit]I've read that Jett has refused DNA testing to prove her heritage. Does anyone have any more information? - Robbstrd 10:24, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
Hank Jr. has said he's offered to compare DNA samples to prove once and for all whether she's Hank Sr.'s child and that she's refused. She supposedly said since she's been legally recognized as his daughter she has nothing more to prove. --Spyder130 (talk) 03:48, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- DNA isn't necessarily always the panacea we think it is. The problem is that, with a case this fraught with implacable hostility in some quarters (why not let his actual daughter fully participate in her own birthright?) and millions of dollars on the table making literally anything possible, a switch or wrong testimony by a paid expert muddling matters is unfortunately but not uniquely an option, at which point Jett Williams might have to duplicate the whole scenario of going to court endlessly for the rest of her life in order to prove her identity after having already proven it, assuming she would even be allowed to proceed at all afterward. DNA REFUSAL FROM JETT OFFERRED BY HANK JR?
[edit]Hey, I am not particularly a fan of Hank Jr., however if Jett really is a blood related daughter of Hank Sr., why should she object to a DNA just for the honesty of it?
