A fact from Jessica Mutch McKay appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 17 February 2024 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that Jessica Mutch McKay hosted debates between the leaders of New Zealand's two major political parties?
The following is an archived discussion of the DYK nomination of the article below. Please do not modify this page. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as this nomination's talk page, the article's talk page or Wikipedia talk:Did you know), unless there is consensus to re-open the discussion at this page. No further edits should be made to this page.
Other problems: - The source provided does not explicitly identify the man in the photo as Mutch McKay's husband, which is a bit of a concern for me (it treads just a bit into WP:SYNTH territory in my eyes with the one provided). The source does not even mention the individual by name, nor does she get mentioned in the article either.
QPQ: Done.
Overall: Looking further, the article that does mention that is the Jan 7th Stuff article. I feel like there could be some potential improvement with the hook too, since I feel like a hook that simply discusses Mutch McKay's husband (potentially diminishing her) could be a bit of a wasted potential considering her body of work. It doesn't entirely draw one in to clicking the article. Potentially an alternative hook that could be provided that discusses her body of work is possible, though I am open for discussion, but at the moment I have some unease with the hook. I feel as if with a DYK it doesn't matter too much whether it is about her or her husband. I do think that including her husband would make a much more interesting hook, but I agree with your sentiment. Here's ALT1:
"... that Jessica Mutch McKay hosted debates between the leaders of New Zealand's two major political parties?"
Apologies, I got a bit sidetracked. I would say the former point is more interesting at the end of the day, but it is definitely a shame that the former hook focuses more on her husband rather than her herself. It can't be helped at the end of the day but both are serviceable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ornithoptera (talk • contribs) 04:01, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
