I really respect Jerzy Kukuczka, but he is almost 60 now, and I felt I needed to change is the best in was the best. Gala.martin 03:29, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Messner

[edit]

Previous versions of this article stated that Messner wired a message to Jerzy saying, "you are not second, you are the best." That has since been removed. I copied the original Polish phrase and Googled it and came up with this link [1]. Using a Polish-English translator has given me garbage - it's incomprehensible - so if anybody can read it and authoritatively verify that Messner did indeed write this out, please readd it to the aritcle. hbdragon88 06:00, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

cho oyu

[edit]

Is he really the first ascender in winter of Cho Oyu? The rest of the internet has it as Maciej Pawlikowski and Maciej Berbeka, part of the same expedition, who summited on dec 02 1985, with Kukuczka and Zygmunt Andrzej Heinrich three days later. "He is the only person in the world who has climbed two eight-thousanders in one winter."

[edit]

Nirmal Purja has ascended all 8 thousanders in 6 months, doesn't that count as one winter? I think his recent record setting climbs makes the statement above false but not sure enough to make an edit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nirmal_Purja

Edit: Nevermind I misunderstood. Purja climbed in the summer, Kukuczka climbed two in one winter.
