Notable (yet)?
[edit]I like Jerry and the Cards, but has he really done enough yet to merit his own WP article? Look at Category:Louisville Cardinals men's basketball players and see how he measures up. Maybe in time, but not now. Realkyhick 22:43, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that there are notability requirements for college athletes, so we kinda need to use our judgment here. There are several players on this team that are more notable (Padgett, Williams, Palacios, and Caracter come to mind) and DC is the only other current player with a page. - If there are not special notability requirements for college athletes, then fall back to the general notability requirements. So, has Smith been the primary subject of any published works? None that have been cited in this article yet. (He’s mentioned, obviously, but only as part of the general coverage of the game he just helped win, and the news conference that followed the game.) If notable people aren’t covered in Wikipedia, that doesn’t mean that non-notable people should be covered. (In other words, two wrongs don’t make a right.) --Rob Kennedy 06:01, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- I was mistaken. There are notability requirements for college athletes on WP:Bio and they're as follows:
- "Competitors in college sports in the United States. Articles about first team squad members who have not made a first team appearance may also be appropriate, but only if the individual is at a club of sufficient stature that most members of its squad are worthy of articles."
- I would say that Louisville Cardinals basketball is of sufficient stature that most team members who play regularly are notable. Based on the fact that "competitors in college sports" are assumed to be notable, I'm removing the notability tag. Oren0 05:03, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- There's been more information added that tends to prove his notability a bit more now. I agree with the removal of the notability tag that I placed earlier. I also agree that Padgett and Palacios deserve their own pages. I think DC probably gets his page as much for off-the-court stuff as on-court, unfortunately. (I bet Ellis Myles is having fun with DC. :-) ) Realkyhick 05:32, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
