Needs work...
[edit]Jerry Mathers needs work...if I can find the time, I'll help.
Dates aren't even in chrono order, should be at least a partial filmography, etc.
It looks like some citations are needed on certain "facts" here.
I like using the actor bio box with a photo for actors.

This reads like a list of facts.
So I was watching Bewitched and this kid that looks exactly like Jerry Mathers was on it. Any info on his name etcetc? I'm pretty sure it's impossible for it to be Jerry Mathers regardless, because the age doesn't match up properly with how old he should've been. He was playing baseball and his mother on the show was June the mom from Lost in Space. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.27.246.219 (talk) 19:04, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- It was probably his younger brother Jimmy Mathers who also acts. 108.237.241.88 (talk) 06:17, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
I just replied, in a different section on this talk page, identifying that Bewitched episode and pointing out that it was Jimmy, not Jerry. Carlm0404 (talk) 15:48, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
Also, there is stuff about Jerry's military service which is outside the Military Service section, so please consider shift. Also, I am seeing reference, in this wikipedia article, to making fun about the death-in-Vietnam rumor, but wasn't there something elsewhere about Jerry Mathers being confused with someone of similar name who did die in Vietnam? Carlm0404 (talk) 15:56, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
FCC License??
[edit]The wiki says Jerry Mathers has an FCC Operators license. I don't find him on the FCC ULS system. Does he own a broadcast station perhaps? More clarification needed.
By the way I am a big fan of Leave It To Beaver, probably the best show of its time.
6 degrees of separation, a few years ago I was at the Indianpolis Airport (after Indy 500) and Jerry Mathers was at the same gate as me. I recognized him immediately (was it the baseball cap?) and then the agent called his name. ```` —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.121.205.178 (talk) 23:22, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- I don't recall the year, but there was a point when the FCC didn't require operators to have a license. I was a chief operator from 2010 to 2021 and did not need FCC certification for example. Since Mathers was a DJ it's possible he would have one IF it was prior to the FCC discontinuing the requirement. That may explain your being unable to find him in the ULS system.THX1136 (talk) 17:14, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
Jerry mathers isn't dead.
[edit]If you look in the references section, look at 5. and it says that Jerry Mathers died in Vietnam. However, once following the link, it's said to be false. Jerry Mathers didn't die in Vietnam. So What's the point of this? Do I have permission to remove it?--Shadow6Wolf66 (talk) 13:30, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
http://www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/beaver.htm
- The Wikipedia article is not claiming he died, rather that a false rumour led to many people believing he had died, until it was proven otherwise. It's even described as an urban legend. There is nothing incorrect in the text or the source material. But to answer your question "what's the point of this?", I would say "probably not much point at all". It's the sort of thing that may have caused a bit of discussion back then, but in a broader context it is trivial and has little relevance. I would agree with its removal. You don't really need to ask for permission. It's polite that you asked, and you can always invite discussion, but if you believe something is inappropriate, it's OK to remove it as long as you say why. It is what we call "being bold". If anyone disagrees they can put it back and continue discussing the matter. Rossrs (talk) 13:39, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Actually the "died in Vietnam" rumor was very big at the time, the primary theory is that it was started by a stupid joke. "Did you hear that Jerry Mathers was shot in Vietnam? Yeah that guy (gook) Shot The Beaver". In those days it was not very easy to fact check rumors and it was really somewhat amazing how widespread it became. I remember newspapers and even TV news folks finally coming out and saying Jerry Mathers was alive and well. Leave It to Beaver Killed in Vietnam
[edit]Yes, literally everyone heard that rumor back in the '70s, which had everything to do with the notion that the world of Ward and June Cleaver and its suppositions were destroyed by the Vietnam War in the '60s. People who didn't know what the word irony means were subconsciously struck by that one. Racing Forward (talk) 12:28, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
Broadway
[edit]"In 1936, Barbara Billingsley appeared in the Broadway play Straw Hat, which closed after only five shows." 1936? Rumiton (talk) 09:50, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I think 1936 is right after all. She was born in 1915. Rumiton (talk) 13:46, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
Grandfather

Air National Guard
[edit]So if Jerry Mathers was in the Air National Guard what was his AFSC (specialty), his rank, where was he stationed and why did he leave the Guard? 108.237.241.88 (talk) 06:22, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Bewitched
[edit]OK, so I just watched an episode of Bewitched and was happily surprised to see Jerry Mathers playing a local boy, Marshall Burns, and June Lockhart playing the mother. I was unable to catch the copyright year, let alone the episode name, so is this the sort of thing that would be covered by WP:SKYISBLUE or by WP:NOR?
RiverStyx23{submarinetarget}
I'm sorry to inform you that I found Jimmy (not Jerry) Mathers on that Bewitched episode. I don't know if those 2 Mathers are related. 1964 marks the end of June Lockhart's stint on Lassie, with the Martin-family characters leaving that show. Here is the Jimmy Mathers appearance on Bewitched, per imdb: "Bewitched (TV Series) Marshall Burns - Little Pitchers Have Big Fears (1964) ... Marshall Burns"

Married... with Children
[edit]He also had a prominent role in Married... with Children episode 22 of of season 5, You Better Shop Around (Part 2) (footage here). --82.170.113.123 (talk) 11:07, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Jerry Mathers
[edit]It says that Jerry was married in 1974-1981 and married again 1977-1997 .... Was he married to 2 different women at the same time ? Because that is what its saying..
Just wanting to know,
Thank you, Donna96.31.218.149 (talk) 16:53, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

Home Town
[edit]Looks like Rock Rapids, Iowa is his home town. Not LA. 2601:806:4301:C100:3CA3:49E0:7F37:304B (talk) 02:48, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
I Love Lucy
[edit]There is a YouTube entry that has facts you didn't know about Leave It to Beaver. Just today, I saw that at 1:22 and after where Jerry Mathers made a brief uncredited appearance on an I Love Lucy episode. Carlm0404 (talk) 16:01, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
"15 Leave It to Beaver Facts that Change Everything" is the title of that YouTube entry. I could not post the link itself. Carlm0404 (talk) 16:03, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
Are Jerry Mathers and Marshall Mathers (Eminem) related?
[edit]This would be a fascinating addition to the article if Jerry Mathers and Marshall Mathers were related. It would certainly generate some real publicity and attention for the Wikipedia page itself if Beaver and Eminem were related in some way. "Mathers" seems to me to be anything but a common name. Racing Forward (talk) 12:23, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
- Jerry Mathers should have been mysteriously seated in the audience during Eminem's surprise renditon of "Lose Yourself" at the Academy Award show a few years ago. Racing Forward (talk) 12:37, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
