"Caught a touchdown pass and handed the ball to a soldier in the end zone during the 3rd Quarter of the "Manning Bowl" between the Giants and the Indianapolis Colts on September 10, 2006 (the day before the fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks)."

I don't see how this warrants entry into Wikipedia or an aspect of his personal life. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.55.231.117 (talk) 17:58, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia Sections

[edit]

Currently, almost all of the factoids in the Shockey’s Trivia section are written as incomplete sentences. While most Good/Featured articles shun Trivia sections, the information may pose some significance, pending its verification (unless all the information was gathered from one reliable source). Trivia sections are usually spliced into one’s “Personal life” section. --ShadowJester07 21:01, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the concept of bullets and lists, which are not meant to be written in "complete" sentences. ;) As the section is written, it reads much better than redundantly writing, "Shockey has...," "Shockey was...," "Shockey's favorite...".-PassionoftheDamon 22:25, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why not just convert the bullet points into a paragraph or two :p --ShadowJester07 22:35, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The information covers too divergent topics (musical tastes, patriotism, friendships, romantic interests, etc.) to consolidate into a paragraph right now. Each bullet point would have to stand as a new paragraph since there is no unifying theme. Ultimately, however, consolidating the bullet-pointed 'Trivia' section into paragraphs should be the goal as more information is added.-PassionoftheDamon 20:32, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Homophobic

[edit]

When I used to live in New York City, it seemed like this guy was always in the paper for saying something controversial, I think about gay people too. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm going to check it right now.

WikiProject class rating

[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot (talk) 19:18, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trade to New Orleans Saints

[edit]

This trade has not been finalized. Nor has it been approved by the league. Please refrain from editing until it has been. The source for this trade is of pure speculation. Neither teams website confirms it at this time. Shockey is still on the Giants roster, and #21 is still being used by the New Orleans Saints. Personally I hope he does go, It'll be one less distraction for the Giants, and a huge one for the Saints.--Subman758 (talk) 20:06, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Both teams now confirm the trade, though at this time it is still pending league approval. Three Cheers for the Giants for getting rid of another useless distraction. HIP HIP HURRAY, HIP HIP HURRAY, HIP HIP HURRAY!!!--Subman758 (talk) 21:39, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy?

[edit]

I'm surprised not to see any info here about the controversy generated by Shockey while a New York Giant. A couple lines would be justified. References might include Shockey Has Been More Analyzed Than Utilized This Season, Shockey Looks to Move Past Controversy and Talkin' Trash: Jeremy Shockey. Someone with more knowledge about Shockey and/or these controversies (and interest in this) could probably do a better job adding the info than I could. ZueJay (talk) 01:05, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at the history of the article you'll see that at one point there was some more about his controversies. However, it was never really sourced correctly, and recently one editor (correctly) removed everything unsourced. But I agree, the article is lacking when it doesn't include any of the controversial stuff that he went through as a Giant. The links that you provided look like a good place to start. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 00:48, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, WFAN had Mr. Schwarz[sic?](I think first Steve) at about 11pm. He went into detail as to why the Giants traded Jeremy. Maybe an article will be forthcoming in the NYPost. Richard Neer was operating the 10:30 to 1:00AM slot. http://www.wfan.com/ Basically, the post columnist said Jeremy stirred up a great deal of controversy just before he was traded. I have never figured out how to get a podcast to work from the WFAN, but good luck: http://www.wfan.com/pages/744503.php (this link might change by tomorrow) Johndoeemail (talk) 03:53, 26 August 2008 (UTC) ...had to fix a typo Johndoeemail (talk) 03:54, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was Paul, not Steve, and not Schwarz but Schwartz Got it: http://podcast.wfan.com/wfan/1287589.mp3 "no way a better team without Shockey" "he went off the deep end" "it got worse" "minicamp was a disaster" "i heard ...bad mouthing what was going on with the team" "he had to go because he would not be soothed" "he complained about the hotel accommodations.." "he took it personally" "in his head he was not going to be rationalize they won the super bowl without me" "sometimes people need a change of (scenery?)"

This is good too: http://multimedia.wfan.com/search?q=richard+need+08-25&col= Regards Johndoeemail (talk) 04:27, 27 August 2008 (UTC) ...fixing typos in my quotations Johndoeemail (talk) 04:43, 27 August 2008 (UTC) also "...he had to go..." 04:43, 27 August 2008 (UTC) Take a grain of salt with my transcription, one quote was from Richard Neer and the rest should be from Schwartz. The quotes are 2/3 in on the mp3 file and run to the end. Johndoeemail (talk) 04:48, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to Shockey's interview in ESPN he was not invited to any of the celebrations for the Giants superbowl win. So I took that part down, because it can't be positively confirmed either way since its he said/ he said. If someone wants to word it differently saying there is different news reports on the situation, fine- otherwise it just looks like another way to make this guy look like a jerk when he might be telling the truth. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.39.171.64 (talk) 23:55, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Week 15" Unsourced

[edit]

I don't watch football anymore..I do not know what "week 15" means, for the rest of the sentence, here is a reference: http://www.neworleanssaints.com/Team/Roster/People/Jeremy%20Shockey.aspx Regards Johndoeemail (talk) 04:58, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ugh: "and suffered damage to his ankle": I was wrong, my reference i posted above does not include that he "suffered damage to his ankle." I guess an inline citation is required for the first part of the sentence Johndoeemail (talk) 05:05, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the "week 15" ambiguity. As for the injury, you're correct, it could use an inline citation. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 13:54, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it was prolly a really good idea you fixed the week 15 ambiguity because I recently read somewhere that the nfl might be going to more weeks/more games (dont remember where) and the article was focused on the increase of injuries to the players. Thank you very much. Regards Johndoeemail (talk) 04:52, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Might as well kiss your music and your fans in New Orleans Good Bye. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.178.192.60 (talk) 22:27, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Amen. And all of the WhoDat Nation is glad to see the recent edits to his Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.156.92.28 (talk) 04:50, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ok this kind of thing is hitting Facebook big time. Some are very unhappy about this. The link posting up that he is a snitch esp. upsetting to the people who went to or are about to go to the University of Miami. I have a personal interest in this as my son is an alumnus and we are huge fans of UM. I would appreciate it if someone would make sure this article is correct and without the garbage I've just seen. I change the heading per WP:BLP rules. Thank you in advance, --CrohnieGalTalk 10:38, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Vandalism

[edit]

The only reference I can find to "Douglas Scappa" anywhere are sites leeching this exact feed from wikipedia: "Shockey attended the University of Miami, where he was part of the school's long tradition of star tight ends along with teammate Douglas Scappa."

e.g. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/385520-the-50-greatest-miami-hurricanes/page/14

https://www.google.com/search?q=douglas+scappa+miami

Anyone know this name as being part of a "long tradition of star tight ends" at Miami? Even if it's a poorly worded way of saying a high school teammate of Shockey joined him at Miami, it's clearly not relevant at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.40.239.22 (talk) 14:39, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
