Separate article for Howard Shipyards?
[edit]Since I live only 3-4 blocks away, I'm pretty much forced to have wrote this article. Should I write a separate article for the Howard SHipyards, or include it here? I have a pic of the old shipyards from the Baird's book, but it is just as "high-quality" as the other pics I took from that book.--Bedford 20:25, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- I think they were distinct businesses, so I would say they each deserve an article. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 21:08, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Inconsistancies
[edit]According to http://www.aclines.com/JB/Jb_about.asp, the history behind Jeffboat does not seem to match what is in this article. Will have to do some more research and find better info. Supersquid 09:47, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
"belly of the beast"
[edit]I have worked at jeffboat as a machinist for a number of years, and was involved in the "wildcat", and subsequent labour actions, including the recent decert campaign: The "labour update" was mine, written before I had a login. My question is this: Why was my text edited? All "facts" were supported by independent McMedia articles (Courier-Journal and the local Jeff paper); and, as well, the final vote tally was certified by the NLRB (649-190 to retain local 89). Is the person responsible for "editing" some sort of management stooge? Perhaps a salaried or supervisory employee at Jeffboat, or some where else? If so, why is their NPOV not challenged? I realise the importance of NPOV, but when information is supported by "outside" sources......................... Wanagi49 11:16, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- I did the edit. I have no connection with the company in any way; I live in Alabama, though I'm familiar with Jeffboat having lived in the area for many years. I removed the old section because I believe it was heavily slanted pro-union and anti-management, which is a definite NPOV problem, and I could not find the source of the certified vote results. I stand by your right to back your union, but you must remember that Wikipedia prides itself in presenting a neutral point of view, so you must keep any editorializing to a minimum. (Believe me, I have to police myself on that many times.) If you can find a source article from the C-J or the J-ville paper (or the NLRB itself) with the results, please include a footnote/reference to the web page, and all will be well. I remind you also of this note which you will find at the bottom of the page every time you edit anything in Wikipedia: If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it. List of ships
[edit]I have started a list of ships built at the Jeffersonville Shipyards. I am listing all of the steamers I can find from Way's Packet Directory, 1848–1994. I completed all of the ships with names starting with the letter "A" from this book. It would be interesting to see just how many ships were produced there.
