Esquirol and Idiocy
[edit]According to page 15 of “ The development of intelligence in children ( The Binet-Simon scale)” written by Alfred Binet, Esquirol was the first to differentiate idiocy. Passage from the book:
“[…]he develops this fact in great details and certainly understood and certainly understood its importance. Ordinarily when everyone cites the names of Esquirol in a history of idiocy it is to bring out the fact that we owe to him a classification of idiocy founded upon the power of speech.
