"Jazz technique" section

[edit]

Although I acknowledge the respectable amount of effort that clearly went into this section of the article--seriously, it's sourced and uses properly-licensed illustrations and everything--it's just not appropriate for an article specifically about jazz flute... because it doesn't have anything to do with jazz flute at all. It's a simple explanation of jazz theory and some tangentially-related topics that apply to performance on any instrument. I'd normally recommend moving this info to a more appropriate location, such as Jazz Harmony or Music Theory or Jazz, but these concepts are already explained in much greater detail in those articles. So I'm taking it out, but leaving this long explanation why because I'm sorry to have to nix such earnest work. --Drasil (talk) 02:00, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose deletion

[edit]

I haven't followed the history of this article, so don't know if I am missing something; but I can't see how deletion can be an appropriate solution to the problems currently besetting the article. The topic is completely notable. It is the subject of substantial literature and extensive musical literature (probably with some pretty extensive overlap between those two categories). You can take Grade exams in it or play it in an ensemble at Berklee. I suggest reducing the page to whatever useful and referenced content it has, and then leaving for someone with the necessary will and expertise to expand. I too oppose the deletion of this article for all the cogent reasons specified above. Two dissenting voices are one more than is required to remove the PROD tag as per WP:PROD, so I removed it myself and added the OLD PROD tag below. --Drasil (talk) 18:14, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Performers

[edit]

What about expanding the list of performers and including names like Alexander Zonjic, Dave Valentin, Althea Rene, Bill McBirnie, Hubert Laws, Lew Tabackin, Sherry Winston, Jeremy Steig and Paul Lieberman? Or better, add a link to the article "American jazz flautists" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.102.212.105 (talk) 16:29, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
