U.S.A. territory
[edit]Dear User:Tony1, Just a reminder a United States of America state is different than an unincorporated United States of America territory, and as of your edits on 1 December 2022 and 2 December 2022 Puerto Rico is an unincorporated United States of America territory. Also, per your edit summary, just a reminder the name of the country is the United States of America and the proper abbreviation is U.S.A. not US. Hope this helps if you continue to be confused by international date formatting. Also, please stop removing linking as a form of vandalism. Regards, Tanis Coralee Leonhardi (talk) 15:00, 2 December 2022 (UTC).
- I'm afraid most Americans will disagree with you on the date format. Please raise it at WP:MOSNUM if you want to propose changing it. As for links, please see WP:MOSLINK. On "US", see Chicago Manual of Style—any edition since 2014. Tony (talk) 01:17, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for stating your case, I will consider it. For transparency and honesty you might want to sign your comments with your real username or perhaps your real name. Regards, Tanis Coralee Leonhardi (talk) 01:24, 3 December 2022 (UTC).
- First official language of Puerto Rico is Spain-derived Spanish, second language is English partially American-derived. Something worth noting if thinking of retaining the original date formatting used in the article, which was also the formatting retained/used in the first 141 days of evolution of the article from 14 July 2022 to 1 December 2022 (141 days inclusive). Tanis Coralee Leonhardi (talk) 03:39, 10 December 2022 (UTC).
- The world governing body for aquatic sports, FINA, and the International Olympic Committee, IOC, treat Puerto Rico as its own nation. The subject of the article Javier Ruisanchez is a sportsperson born in Puerto Rico who competes representing the nation in international competitions. The appropriate national tie for the article/article subject is hence Puerto Rico not the United States of America. As the dominant language in Puerto Rico is European-derived not American-derived, the appropriate date formatting is international per language variant and national tie. Tanis Coralee Leonhardi (talk) 14:49, 10 December 2022 (UTC).
- As a female who has lived full-time in Washington State (over 20 years), California (over 4 years) and Hawai‘i (approximately 3 years) in my approximately 30 years of existence, and is currently living full-time in the United States of America, some places in the article were linked because there is more than one place with that name, such as Paris. Based on my experience living in South Africa full-time from January to June 2012, not everyone knows where the countries/cities linked in the article are located on a map. The decision to link to the articles was thus made with a global audience in mind. If the concern is overlinking, the global population is currently over 8 billion humans and continues to increase, so one might expect the number of articles linking to certain other articles to increase as well. Tanis Coralee Leonhardi (talk) 13:42, 12 December 2022 (UTC).
- For the linking to identity-related terms such as gay, ballet, soccer, and Latin American, I have encountered a fair amount of misinformation regarding the meaning of the term(s). The linking is intended to clarify what the term refers to and to serve as a means for those who are interested to learn more via the corresponding Wikipedia article. Tanis Coralee Leonhardi (talk) 13:46, 12 December 2022 (UTC).
Linking and formatting restored
[edit]Linking to other Wikipedia articles and formatting of dates in the article Javier Ruisanchez have been restored to their original state and am retaining the style(s) restored moving forward. The instances where linking/formatting were changed fell into three broad categories: 1) Locations - linking restored for ambiguity reduction, such as linking to the article for Paris, France to clarify not Paris, Ohio. 2) Date formatting - international date formatting restored per article subject national tie to Puerto Rico and corresponding tie to European-derived national language(s). 3) Identity-related terms - linking restored, such as linking to the article covering gay in the context of sexual orientation to clarify not the emotional state. - Noting retaliatory nature of editor and their vandalism editing. Following their response on this talk page, the editor has vandalized 75% of the new biography articles I have created, expanding their scope to include 100% of new biography articles I created for open water swimmers (not targeted prior to their response on this talk page). As it stands, 15 of the 111 new articles (13.5%) I have created on English Wikipedia have been vandalized by User:Tony1 since they started their vandalism spree in November 2022 of targeting the new articles I have created and vandalizing them. My solution for the time-being to attempt to stop their vandalism on the new articles I created is to stop creating new articles as the user currently has a tendency to target the new articles I have made in the past 366 days for vandalism.
