"When an experienced prisoner escapes, he will normally take a "greener" with himself, whom he can eat to satisfy his hunger. These greeners are called bychki in Russian."
What is this meant to mean?
- What's a "greener"? (An food? Animal? Person?) - Looking on AltaVista Bychki seems to be a town or village.
Also:
- Has anyone ever actually escaped from Jaslyk? Did they make it across the steppe? - Shouldn't this 'prison' really be called a gulag? - Shouldn't the title reflect this, especially if the majority of the prisoners are political prisoners?
A search on AltaVista for 'Jaslyk' and 'greener' returns only one hit; this wiki page.
