[edit]You say that Jarvis Square has seen a lot of development over the past 5 years. To make this article more complete and thorough, you might want to document what Jarvis Square was like 5 years ago. Some questions you might want to consider: How has it improved? Why did it improve? You could also give information on the demographics and statistics of the community, for example: What races comprise this area? What is the property value in the area? What is the average household income? You could include information on education: What schools would students go to if they lived in this area? Finally, how did Jarvis Square get its name? Some clarification of how Jarvis Square has "seen a lot of development" would be very helpful. Some of this information might be available through the Jarvis Square Chamber of Commerce if such a committee/group exists. It might also helpful for readers if you created links for the Jarvis Square businesses (either external or internal). Perhaps some background on Rogers Park, or who the commercial area mainly serves, would also strengthen the article. Kryan916 (talk) 00:30, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
How did Jarvis Square become Jarvis Square
[edit]@ User:Saf704 above....In 1998, my wife and I opened The Harvest, an antique store at the corner of Jarvis and Greenwood, in a storefront that had been vacant for a number of years. Except for Don's Coffee Shop (gone), Jarvis Liquors (gone), and a laundrymat the area did not have much of an economic presence. Our store had an eclectic "English" feel to it. When I hand-painted the marquee, I changed the address from the simple uninteresting "1447 Jarvis Avenue" to the much more affluent sounding "1447 Jarvis Square". All store advertising, mailings, etc. used the Jarvis Square address. Over time other people started to use Jarvis Square as a location identifier for the corner which is the typical manner in which neighborhoods can get their names.
