[edit]According to an interview by the film critic Tadao Satō on the DVD of the film The Only Son (1936 film) by Yasujirō Ozu the development of the silk industry in Nagano Prefecture led the way in the industrialization of Japan. This industry then collapsed during the depression and led to unemployment of graduates. part of the plot of the film, the only son who despite great sacrifice by his mother is not doing that well in Tokyo.
