Does anybody know, in which year the Japan Open started? I found, that 1977 wons there Lene Køppen, so at least it started 1977. --Florentyna 06:11, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In this 2013 article, Gill Clark describes the 1981 event as a 'full scale dress rehearsal before the first "official" YONEX OPEN JAPAN staged a year later in 1982'. The reason the 1977 edition is kept separate may have to do with the status of Yonex as the title sponsor. That is, the historical results go back to 1982 for the event bearing the name 'Yonex Open' or previously 'Yonex Cup'. However, the current website lists results back to 1982 so I have added the first two years' results, with references. Donaldinyongin (talk) 01:47, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For the predecessor tournament in our German badminton journal it is stated, that 1977 was the 7th edition of the Japanese open tournament. Florentyna (talk) 20:27, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
