"PhD in Theoretical Physics" shouldn't link to Philosophy. Looking through history, it seems that someone added "Philosophy" with a pipe character instead of a slash and then someone else turned that into a wikilink that doesn't make sense. According to the bio on her website her Physics BA was with a concentration in Philosophy. She says she turned away from philosophy because it's personality-driven and immune to evidence.--88.73.25.100 (talk) 20:15, 24 June 2012 (UTC) Please, more info on this interesting scientist! her background and her grounding in sci. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:558:6036:9:1963:3265:FC39:ABA5 (talk) 04:48, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Undergraduate Degree and PEN/Bingham Prize

The article mistakenly says Prof. Levin has a Bachelor of Science degree from Barnard College. She actually has a Bachelor of Arts (see http://jannalevin.com/bio-and-contact), which is the only degree Barnard offers. Even grads who majored in one (or more) of the sciences receive B.A. degrees. See http://admissions.barnard.edu/about/at-a-glance.
The article should also mention that Prof. Levin won the 2007 PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for her novel A Madman Dreams of Turing Machines. See http://pen.org/penrobert-w-bingham-prize-winners.

- I agree with the proposed edits given the veracity of the sources. Changes of a material factual nature don't need to be discussed first.J Mark Morris (talk) 02:48, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

Change: "She earned a Bachelor of Science in..." to "She earned a Bachelor of Arts in..."
Explanation: At Columbia, degree types are ultimately determined by the type of undergraduate college. Often, a BA in a stem degree from one of the liberal arts colleges of Columbia will be more rigorous (in terms of subject matter material covered) than a given BS equivalent at another institution (likely why Professor Levin seems to have gone straight to a PhD program from undergrad). The fact remains, Barnard College of Columbia only confers traditional BA degrees, not BS degrees.

- Done For anyone who sees this, I made this change under the assumption that an academic's biography in the faculty section of their department's website is self-published and about themselves, and so an acceptable source per WP:ABOUTSELF. If this is incorrect, please do revert me and ping me here so I can search for a suitable RS that describes Dr. Levin's degrees. Pinchme123 (talk) 22:24, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
