Errors on the list
[edit]Patagonian Rosewood has a rating of 3840, not 3,000,000. Don't know who changed that, but it's absurd, and I don't see an Edit button for that section. 00:13, 27 February 2012
I noticed Teak is mentioned twice on the list. Once with 1000 janka and once with 1150 janka. Both numbers are sourced (the two top sources each state a different number for teak) but only one can be correct. Can anyone clarify?--Nwinther (talk) 09:13, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Same problem with larch at 590 and 1200. Perhaps someone should add a column for the correct botanical names instead of the common names. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.60.239.35 (talk) 17:05, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
It would also be a lot easier to read the list if it was sorted alphabetically. Is there a way to do this by script or does it have to be done manually? Svart0 (talk) 09:51, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Surely African Blackwood (listed as Blackwood) with it's density must have a much higher rating? All over the internet it's rated as 1720 but yet is denser than Lignum?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.146.54.16 (talk) 19:20, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
So, are the values in the table side hardness? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.97.120.46 (talk) 13:50, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Xanthostemon verdugonianus Philippines Hardest Wood is not in the list.Cite error: There are <ref>
tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).
Osage Orange is in error, it's footnote (7) points to Red Maple and the value cited (2040) matches neither wood. Windsor (talk) 21:31, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- fixed Red Maple to Osage OrangePete unseth (talk) 14:54, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
What's on the List
[edit]The table says it covers flooring woods. Is that really all, or should the table's title be changed? I, for one, have never seen or heard of a balsa floor. On the other hand, if it really is limited (or mostly limited) to woods used in floors, why? Wouldn't it be more useful to list the hardness for all the woods that (as long as there's a source?) Not that there aren't a lot already. And then the name would be changed as I already said.Joe Avins (talk) 14:57, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Another Error
[edit]At 1390 Janka Hardness you will find a hotlink for "Coffee Bean". First off, coffee beans are not wood. I think that's an obvious mistake, but what should be there instead is the Kentucky Coffeetree. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kentucky_coffeetree The coffeetree has a Janka hardness of 1390 and should be in the place of the bean.
Correct me if I'm wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.187.85.40 (talk) 18:34, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Correction made in the chart. Good catch! The Wood Database agrees with you that the tree has a Janka hardness of 1390: http://www.wood-database.com/lumber-identification/hardwoods/coffeetree/ Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 02:00, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Hardness vs density?
[edit]I am no physicist and am a math-o-phobe to boot, but I imagine that there is a relationship between the density of wood and its hardness. I can point to some examples that seem to bear this out, but am no wood authority (ebony - hard and dense; eastern white pine - soft and not very dense). Am I correct? If not, can you explain the difference (in words of less than 1 syllable .^_^.)? Thank you for your time, Wordreader (talk) 05:56, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Bar chart table
[edit]I would like to propose that the bar charts be converted to a sortable table (with bars). Is any anyone opposed to this?- MrX 14:12, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Where did Gabriel Janka settle?
[edit]The article describes Gabriel Janka as an "Austrian-born emigrant", it does not tell us where Janka emigrated to. I hope some editor is able to clarify this and insert the appropriate information. Pete unseth (talk) 18:56, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
