Monastery?

[edit]

Not really a "monastery" as there are no monks living there. The temple is looked after by a married lama and his family. There seems to be some kind of affiliation with the Sakya tradition as there are several photos of Sakya Trizin the hierarch of that sect, and other Sakya lamas placed on the main alter as you enter the temple.

I've chaged the name from "Dungtse" (which means the son of a lama or holder of a hereditary Buddhist lineage) to the more accurate "Dumtseg" [zlum brtshegs]. This is the spelling used in the authorititave three volume Seeds of Faith: Comprehensive Guide to the Sacred Places of Bhutan.
