As part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles' Project quality task force, all old good articles are being re-reviewed to ensure that they meet current good article criteria (as detailed at WP:WIAGA. I have determined that this article needs some upkeep to maintain its status, and I have some additional comments:
- The article is pretty dense and hard to understand if one isn't a Wiccan. Mainstream readers aren't going to know anything about "covens", "second degree", "third degree initiation ceremony", "Alexandrian tradition's Book of Shadows", "Doreen Valiente". Simply wikilinking terms isn't a good practice, because that requires readers to navigate away from the page to learn more information; articles should be able to stand on their own at a bare minimum.
- The other main issue is one of length and sourcing. What makes this person notable? All the citations I see are from fringe sources, such as www.themystica.com, Wicca na hErin, et al. A quick google search turns up several promising mainstream sources, which could be used to supplement the article, although notability questions might still exist. Bottom line is I'm not sure this meets the "broad survey" required of good article criteria.
- Other issues:
- Images: File:Stewartfarrar.jpg; how do we know the author of the photograph gave permission to use the image under the given license? File:Janet Farrar in Osiris pose.jpg is non-free and could conceivably be replaced by a free image, so you need at the very least a much stronger fair use rationale to support keeping it per WP:NFCC.
- The tense should really be made more active throughout. For example,
The Farrars had begun running their own coven in 1971The Farrars began running their own coven in 1971. There's lots of little places like that where phrases could be made more straightforward. - "In the coven she met Stewart Farrar, her future husband and co-author." and "Stewart Farrar died in February 2000 after a brief illness." are unsourced.
I am putting the article on hold for a week pending improvements. Keep me appraised on this page; if you have any questions, this is the space to ask them as well. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 16:48, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- As no one has started to address any of the above issues in the time allotted, I am delisting. You may renominate at WP:GAN any time, but I encourage any such editors to try and address some of the above. Thanks, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 23:36, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
