Contradictory claims
[edit]On the one hand, it's asserted that 'Janet' is an acronym. On the other hand, it's asserted that the origin of the name is uncertain. Given that the 'acronym' claim is unsourced, I have deleted it. StockGear (talk) 21:01, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Without having any proof, this is pure speculation - but - I'm guessing Janet is used because it is similar to J.A.N.A.F. - Joint Army Navy Air Force. But who really knows. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.97.138.231 (talk) 16:03, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
I agree Janet probably comes from J.A.N.A.F. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.1.96.98 (talk) 16:50, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Aircraft Speculation
[edit]I noticed recently sev eral commuter aircraft with no tail numbers painted completly white coming out of KLAS every hour or so. They have 2 pusher props in the back and i puller in the front. Im not sure if they are linked to Janet or not but the no tail numbers are suspicious. I couldnt confirm if they were operationg out of the janet terminal. --Npop 04:16, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- And none of us will never know if they are. Or how much tax-money the feds used on those things. 83.108.211.214 (talk) 05:37, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
Updated
[edit]I've just added the fleet information for Janet, all information freely available from numerous sites, the most accurate of course being the FAA N Registration database. Is it worth adding information on flights such as departure and arrival airports, flight numbers and with approximate times? The nature of Janet means this data cannot be 100% accurate of course so I leave it to you to decide. If its worth adding I'll update the page later. Ben Clark 194.60.85.4 20:07, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Joint Air Network for Employee Transportation = JANET?
[edit]http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/microsoftflightsimulatorx/news.html?sid=6155710 Towards the middle of the article.
There's several theories on what Janet stands for, if anything. Nobody seems to want to confirm though, so I wouldn't put it in the article just yet. Dennypayne 00:46, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
I recently was reading a book which mentioned a publication known as JANAP in regards to UFO's. JANAP stands for Joint Army Navy Air Force Publication. Now this stood out to me, and I instantly recalled JANET airlines for Area 51. I theorized some possible meanings... Joint Airforce / Navy - Extra Terrestrial ? Joint Airforce / Navy Employee Transport? any of these including the above could work.. I suppose... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Roadwolf (talk • contribs) 10:45, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
My Understanding
[edit]Close. It's not like it is printed on anything in the terminal or anything, but: Joint Army/Navy/Employee Transport is how I understood it. There are a whole lot of JAN- acronyms with the same meaning, but this flight is easily 50% civilian (or retired military), explaining the E for employee. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.177.141.131 (talk) 00:03, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- Ummmm.... There is one problem with that. Area 51, and EVERY OTHER BASE OR LOCATION JANET AIRLINES GOES TO is USAF. Not Army or Navy. Why would they put Army or Navy in an acronym when the Air Force controls it? The dots don't connect. Good guess though! We will probably never know.... Named23 (talk) 23:40, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
The Real Deal??
[edit]The Real Deal
There is no mystery about the name of “Janet Airlines”. The story most likely was not written down because there was no need for it. All the original test pilots would have known. Janet was a 4-year-old girl with Polio in an Iron Lung at Boston City Hospital.
Her uncle was recruited by the US Gov. from the Royal Canadian Air Force to test fly the first American made jet. He most like had dual citizenship. His parents were French Canadian and he was brought up in Manchester, NH. Canada was in the war before we were; it gave him an escape from the French convent where he was raised with his sister. And it also gave him a five-year head start on his flight training.
When the US government realized he could speak 5 languages, was a natural cryptographer and a published journalist they saw the opportunity to have him flying espionage missions for the CIA while working as a “war correspondent” in France, Turkey & Siam. During this time he met Leon Uris who wrote him in as a “cameo appearance” in his book “Exodus”.
The doctors said Janet would never walk, her uncle and parents were very upset. She didn’t care if she didn’t walk but was determined to so they would not be sad. The Iron Lung was very claustrophobic and her uncle mentally guided her to soar above it. He told her if she could not walk it was because God wanted her to fly. He said his favorite plane was the one that took him to work and he called it Janet. It caught on probably because he was a very charismatic person and also it is easier to call something by a name than not too. It is more definitive. Also, once a boat or plane is given a woman’s name there is a superstition against changing it. There is speculation that it is an anagram; well it may be. If you are a cryptographer how do you put a name in place? You choose the name you want to use and then plug in the words that fit. The others that flew with him knew the truth..
His immediate superior was General John Sanford, who was head of Intelligence and responsible for a lot of cover-ups. Just check him out on-line and you’ll get a few surprises.
I am JanetRoberta and my uncle was Robert “Red” Constant. He lived to see me walk and run. And I miss him every day. He was killed in 1952; there was a contract out on his life, most likely for his involvement in the “Mercy Mission” flying 40,000 Jew out of Iraq and into Israel. Going back and forth, never knowing when he would be found out and killed.
He thought he was safe but when he got that last phone call to co-pilot a flight over the Alps as a favor to someone, my mother begged him not to go. She knew it was a set-up and most likely it was. It was shot down, killing all seven aboard. My mother was never the same, not I.
You can see his picture on the site spacecowboysaloon.com look under “The Real Stuff: The X-Planes and the men who flew them” then under “BellX1” the first experimental plane. Jack Woolams, Ed Hensley & Slick Goodlin are with him. They became well known because they were flying for the military not the CIA. The government did a good job of making Uncle Red invisible.
At the time of his death he had signed a Hollywood contract to screen write and narrate “Death Valley Days”. They had to hire temporary replacements to narrate and then gave Ronald Reagan the job.
The story was never about Janet. It’s about Robert Constant and what I’ve written here is only a brief summary. What a joy he was for the short time I had him and what a loss his death was for humanity.
I can verify who he was and what he did and that he had the influence to do it. I know he named the first plane and the others followed but I cannot prove it. But I don't have to. It matters only to me. If people want to think it's a mystery or secret they are free to do that. The real story is so much better. Janet isn't important except that she was so important to him and the story is about him. How blessed am I, to have had him as my uncle and he has never left me. This story was too painful to tell while my mother was alive, and then I felt compelled to get his story out.JanetRoberta 04:37, 28 November 2006 (UTC)JanetRoberta

Answer Hi Janet Roberta! I believe you. I´m sorry your father died. Maybe you know something about the Area 51. You´ll see that it´s very interesitng to improve a article extremly. Dagadt
- I should read talk pages more often, seems like I'm four years late reading this! Fascinating story for sure! :) BabyNuke (talk) 11:50, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Janet planes in California?
[edit]I remember reading on Wikipedia that Janet serves several military airports in California. But I´m not very sure. Does somebody know something of that? On dreamlandresort.com are more information... Dagadt
- Now I discovered dreamlandresort.com. There you can read where Janet planes fly. dagadt
Route map
[edit]With the information about Janet on dreamlandresort.com we could make a route map! Dagadt
Added sources, removed unverifiable information.
[edit]I added sources to the points in the article. I didn't actually add much, I just verified what was already there. I also removed the "Destinations" section because I couldn't find any sources to verify it. Even on other Wikipedia pages, such as Edwards Air Force Base, didn't even mention the word "Janet" once, so I'm assuming that the "Destinations" section may not have been accurate. I will contact an Administrator before I remove the addition-citation-banner.Unibrow1994 (talk) 00:24, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Destinations
[edit]"There is no third party source for a destinations table."
Wrong.
http://www.dreamlandresort.com/info/janet_schedule.html
It was removed twice, when this was in the first reference the entire time. The table needs to return, otherwise this article is completely useless. The attraction to Janet is because of the locations that the aircraft travel to, and none of the information on the article would be of particular interest to your average viewer.

Different Aircraft
[edit]I was on Flightradar24 one day and saw an aircraft fly quite close to Area 51 before went to satellite tracking. It was registered to a private owner but was carrying the callsign: JANET10. The aircraft was heading from Las Vegas to Palmdale but its ADS-B went out before that. Here is the link: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n910cb#32cf5fed
The plane says its a Beech King Air 350C but there is already some misdirection going on so if someone could also follow up it would be great. Thanks! Named23 (talk) 23:27, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
