Style of title/disambig

[edit]

Shouldn't the title here simply be "Jane Griffin, Lady Franklin"? i.e. the conventional quasi-noble form; or, maybe, it's not appropriate because Griffin was not her married name....just curious how the current title fits in the styleguide, or whether the old-style comma-title should be the case....Skookum1 (talk) 20:00, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Portrait painter

[edit]

The painter seems to have been [Amelie Munier-Romilly, who has a French page but not yet an English one. I think Amelie is connected to Jane's amour Peter Mark Roget. (Amelie was born Romilly, and so was his mother.) Carbon Caryatid (talk) 14:14, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral Point of View?

[edit]

I draw attention to the sentence in the section, "After the disappearance of her husband," where one paragraph concludes with the bald sentence, "Lady Franklin was openly racist against Inuit." This change was apparently made by the user Sulosky (appears to be inactive now) on 14 October 2019.

The controversy over Dr John Rae's 1854 report of testimony from Inuit of some of Sir John Franklin's survivng crew members apparently resorting to cannibalism, and the reaction of Lady Jane to it, does not need repeating here. But if we are to characterize Jane Franklin's views, there are ways in which to do so that respect Wikipedia guidelines on neutral language - and this sentence really does not qualify. To quote Wiki: "Prefer nonjudgmental language. A neutral point of view neither sympathizes with nor disparages its subject (or what reliable sources say about the subject), although this must sometimes be balanced against clarity. Present opinions and conflicting findings in a disinterested tone. Do not editorialize. When editorial bias towards one particular point of view can be detected the article needs to be fixed." Quote her directly, if necessary, on the subject. We can do better than this. Alexander1926 (talk) 22:10, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mathinna

[edit]

There is no me toon in this article of Lady Jane Franklin's "adoption" of the aboriginal girl Mathinna, and the other aboriginal boy who were taken from Flinders Island. She would abandon both of them to an orphanage. It was a part of her legacy, and it needs to be put in here. Annemeredith (talk) 23:09, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
