Guy Fawkes?

[edit]

I was under the impression that Guido Fawkes was British, despite having a Dutch name. He was a Yorkshireman, who fought as a sapper with the Spanish army.

You are quite right, of course. Good catch. I've changed it. qp10qp 14:46, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Structure

[edit]

Ok, I read your whole article, and I think that it would bring more clarity if it was done parliament by parliament, and you could discuss the main issues of each (Finance, Union, Religion, Privileges etc.) therein.

1st parliament would be the longest, but in this strucutr you would be able to include much as yet undiscussed material. Prerogatives, and the judge Fleming statement (which was to do with parliament), Impositions, and the whle range of privelege arguments. This would have helped me in my A-Levels, so I would say that it's useful and worthwile.

You are entirely right. This article, which hasn't existed very long, is not so much a full treatment as a heap of stray material shoved in a pile to await further attention. It is largely material removed from the James I of England article when that got too large. It's on my list of things to do, and I would also like to do an article on the Scottish parliaments under James, a neglected topic. Even so, I think this article could still be helpful to an A Level student because there are some good quotes to be found in it (especially in the notes) and it is sourced to some of the best historians. Would you consider having a go at improving the article yourself, after you've finished your A Levels? qp10qp 14:55, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thats a really good idea but I also think this article is quite biased towards the whig, pre-revisionist view of James and his parliaments 212.159.69.116 (talk) 20:25, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Move

[edit]

Should we move this to "James I and the English Parliament", since it's a bit obvious which James I this would refer to? PatGallacher (talk) 17:28, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I called it that because I assumed it should ape the biography page as much as possible, to come up with it in the search. qp10qp (talk) 22:45, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not aware that this is a factor in the titling of articles. PatGallacher (talk) 23:55, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I too think that James I and the English Parliament would be a better title. Article titles should be concise after all. Surtsicna (talk) 19:52, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
