Dr Aaij, I wanted to let you know that this article is done there is not much more I can add to the body of it. I am working on the other one now. Col. Hooker has much more info on him than this dear deserter lol. I had The ed17 take another look at it and he did some small edits. --Aporter90 (talk) 16:18, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

[edit]- Also, I have permission from from the people who took pictures of both Van Hoesen and Hookers tombstones to use their pictures for my articles. How do I go about putting them in? --Aporter90 (talk) 18:54, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- The Ed is a good guy. About those pictures--you have them? Or did you find them somewhere? Flickr? Findagrave? What you can do is upload them (look left, at "Upload file") but you got to figure out the license. If it has a proper license you can simply upload it; if not, look at WP:OTRS (and then you go to Wikipedia:Contact us). If you have more info I can help you better. Dr Aaij (talk) 05:34, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
- As for this one, if you think it's ready, you can move it to mainspace; we can do it in class tomorrow, if you like. Dr Aaij (talk) 05:35, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
- Dr Aaij, so uhhhh I uploaded the picture for James Sullivan but now I am like lost....how do I put it on the article? File:Peter Van Hoesen tombstone.jpg Aporter90 (talk) 17:40, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Aporter90: The "free" in "the free encyclopedia" means freely licensed as well. It's not enough for someone to say "yes, you can use it on Wikipedia"—they have to release it under (for example) CC BY-SA 4.0. (that'll look complicated, but click through and it's human-readable, I promise) Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 18:02, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
- The good doctor can help explain this as well. Doc, I've temporarily hidden the speedy deletion template over on File:Peter Van Hoesen tombstone.jpg while we sort this out! Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 18:04, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
- Ed, thanks for helping with my mess! Aporter90 (talk) 18:10, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Aporter90: No prob! Trust me, image copyright on here is ludicrously complicated. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 18:20, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
- Ed, Ms. Porter has email messages giving permission--though without, of course, the technicalities of "I hereby give you permission under CC3.0 to etc." Ms. Porter, the easiest thing is always to have the copyright owner upload the file, but that's not always something you want to ask someone to do--they're already doing you a favor. The next-best thing is, then, to have them write something like the text on Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries. The standard option is CC 3.0; text is here. It's short and sweet.
So, they copy that text, fill in the blank, and then they email it to "permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org" (or they email it to you and you forward it; that's probably easiest). Ed, correct me if I'm wrong, and thanks again for all your help. I've been singing your praises to Ms. Porter, and I hope I wasn't lying about how you set the high school bench press record with one arm tied behind your back. - Ed, thanks for helping with my mess! Aporter90 (talk) 18:10, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
- Dr Aaij, So I received an email from the guy who took the picture and he does not want to release his copyrights so my picture can be deleted. Aporter90 (talk) 21:25, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hmm. Hey I'm sorry. I think this happens frequently--once they see the paperwork they back out for some reason or other... Hey, you tried. Also, I just f***ed with your latest draft, just cause I can. :) Dr Aaij (talk) 04:55, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Did you know that a man once paid another man $300 to take his place in the American Civil War. --Aporter90 (talk) 17:28, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
Dr Aaij, I really can not think of anything cool at the moment...this is all I got right now. --Aporter90 (talk) 17:28, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- So let me get this straight. We have two deserters. S pays H $300. H does something heroic under the name of S, and does not get the credit--right? Dr Aaij (talk) 17:51, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- DYK...that one Civil War deserter, Peter Van Hoesen, was paid $300 by another, James Sullivan, and performed a Medal of Honor-worthy deed at Fort Fisher in 1864 but didn't get the credit for it? Dr Aaij (talk) 18:00, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
