[edit]I've left a note about Spens here - it looks like he may have had a parallel career as an Army general, which isn't mentioned in the article, but I can't quite find a link to substantiate it. Any idea if this is provable or disprovable? My understanding is that quite a few amateur cricketers in this period would have been Army officers, so it's certainly plausible.
