Discussion
[edit]While there is no discussion for this page, I would like to create some, should it find time to be improved before being deleted.Ravenmasterq 02:07, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- It seems we're getting a nice collection of sources here. From the looks of them, we might just have an article here.
The way I see it, we need to do the following:
- Source the article better with the newfound references
- Expand the man's contributions to the electronics field in general and EDA in particular
- Cleanup to meet Wikistandards.
It can definitely be done, and I'll be available to help this weekend if it's not taken care of already. Sidatio 02:35, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Excellent. I'll start working on some information gathering and placing/sourcing tonight. Since I nominated the article, it is my responsibility to help improve it.Ravenmasterq 02:51, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- As I work on gathering info on this page, I realize, to make this page the best it can be, we will probably need a good picture and a good infobox to add to the credibility and viewability of the page. Can anyone provide a free picture? Build an infobox? Ravenmasterq 03:14, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

- I see one photo, and I don't know if it's usable - it's the picture from his Kaufman award announcement. I'm uploading it under the fair-use rationale, but it might get deleted. Sidatio 03:29, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Infobox and picture added. You're on your own until the weekend. Bonne chance! Sidatio 03:55, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- I removed specific date of birth per WP:BIO guidelines. Discuss upon your return.Ravenmasterq 04:01, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Name
[edit]I moved the article, but it was moved back with no edit summary. Google says:
- james.e.solomon+cadence: 84 hits
- james.solomon+cadence: 262 hits
- jim.solomon+cadence: 484 hits
This looks like a pretty clear preference for the informal name to me. Other secondary search terms (xulu, kaufman) yield similar results. --Dhartung | Talk 07:05, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- If Jim Solomon garners the most hits, then logically, shouldn't the page be located there?Ravenmasterq 07:14, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- It's what our naming conventions for people say. This is weaker than a guideline, though. If there were another significant person named Jim Solomon then we could choose the more formal name. But that's not the case here. --Dhartung | Talk 07:20, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Wrong. His name is James. Jim is an informal variation. Google is not valid test, especially when hits may be counted on fingers of one hand. He is not, like, football star, known by nickname. `'Míkka 07:28, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- You have an opinion, true, but what backing do you have for your position? When Xulu (his company) puts out a press release, they call him "Jim Solomon".--Dhartung | Talk 07:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
What are the guidelines for proceeding here? Is it to remain the status quo, have a vote, or find other incidents where this example occurs? Are there other instances where someone is more commonly known by a more informal name in the business world?Ravenmasterq 07:34, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- If we can't agree, we can open a discussion at requested moves. I would hope that Mikka would defer to existing naming conventions and allow us to form a consensus. There's no point to a move war. --Dhartung | Talk 07:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think the redirect set up is good enough. Should another notable Jim Solomon come down the pike, we can do a disambiguation page. Mikka, I don't think anyone's trying to apply WP:GHITS here. The man's simply known as both James and Jim - common for people with that name, really. What's the controversy? Sidatio 11:18, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Picture
[edit]Now that the picture has been axed, does anyone have a free one?Ravenmasterq 05:39, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've emailed one of his business associates with Xulu - let's see if that gets us anywhere. In the interim, I'll be back to help out with this article once I've finished categorizing List of Iranian women. It's slow going - most of the articles on that list need a LOT of attention, and I'd like to get everything tagged and sorted in case its AfD results in a delete. Sidatio 12:48, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've heard back from his partner - it looks like we're going to get a fair-use photo to use with his biography. Sidatio 14:10, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- That's pretty awesome, good job.Ravenmasterq 20:01, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
