This article should be about James Spears

[edit]

As the conservator of Britney Spears and her father, James "Jamie" Spears easily satisfies the criteria of WP:BASIC.

A search of "Jamie Spears" on Google News brings up a vast number of news articles, almost all of whom refer to James and not to daughter Jamie Lynn (who is, as far as I can tell, never referred to by just "Jamie").

Incidentally, my edit of this page this week is the first time I have edited this page, and I do not appreciate my contributions being dismissed as a "potential sockpuppet". Midnight whisper (talk) 19:45, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Previous deletion

[edit]

Note that a previous article on this person was (effectively) deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jamie Spears. Arguably an "old AfD" tag could be applied, but they tend to be linked more to titles than subjects, necessarily. Requested move 1 December 2021

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Jamie Spears. James Spears also redirected here, with a hatnote to the general. No such user (talk) 14:07, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

James Parnell SpearsJamie SpearsHe's the one who has been publicly known in the press as Jamie Spears for I would estimate 2 decades. Jamie Lynn Spears is not. He doesn't use his full name and neither should this article title. In fact, most if not all people wouldn't even know his full name is James Parnell Spears. • Hmmmm. Well, it looks like you're correct that "Jamie" and not "James" is his common name. So let's see... his article is averaging 2,300 pageviews, daughter Jamie Lynn 4,000. Jamie Lynn is known only as Jamie Lynn. Some tiny but non-zero number of those 4,000 a day will probably be looking for her under "Jamie Spears" tho I guess.
Yeah "James Parnell Spears" is not good. You could just move to "James Spears" with a hatnote for General James G. Spears, he of the 3 views a day. OR, "Jamie Spears" could be a disambig page, pointing to both Jamie Lynn Spears and to this article, which could be called "Jamie Spears (whatever-he-is)". Or just James Spears. I don't know what to put in for "whatever-he-is". "conservator"? "father of the Spears sisters"? "Tabloid subject"?
My vote is to make "Jamie Spears" a disambig, and figure out what to call this article... Herostratus (talk) 02:49, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reliability

[edit]

This article uses Jamie Lynn Spears’ autobiography as the sole source for several about her father. That is a SERIOUS problem. Rarely ever should a relative’s writings be taken at pure face-value. We might as well have just asked Jamie Lynn Spears if she wanted to write this article herself with her original research (I say facetiously) SecretName101 (talk) 03:37, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
