[edit]James Parkes, maverick Anglican clergyman and lifelong fighter against Christian missionizing of Jews, Christian antisemitism, and Nazism, was born on the Island of Guernsey in 1896. He published 24 books and hundreds of articles, the great majority dealing with Christian-Jewish relations, and was a founder of the Council of Christians and Jews. His magnum opus, "The Conflict Between the Church and the Synagogue," appeared in 1934. Before he died England in 1981, he established the Parkes Institute of Jewish Studies at the University of Southampton.

James Parkes (clergyman) → James Parkes – Uncontroversially(?), I propose this page is moved to James Parkes.Until today, James Parkes was the page for an obscure rugby player; it is currently a disambiguation page as a stop-gap. I would like the disambiguation page I made deleted—see also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James Parkes (rugby player)).
This page, James Parkes (clergyman), is of a historian and clergyman who has had a scholarly biography written about him, and has had over 150 views in the last 30 days compared to less than 60 for the James Parkes page while it was the rugby player.
The above comment by Parkes' biographer, Haim Chertok (Haim123456), should be interpreted, I believe, as puzzlement over why a stub article of minor rugby player inhabited James Parkes over the biography of someone who "published 24 books and hundreds of articles" and who was "the most steadfast and effective defender of the Jewish people to emerge from Gentile ranks in the twentieth century" (to quote from Chertok's biography). With this interpretation, the comment above from Haim Chertok was NOT mistakenly posted—he was trying to make the same point I am! LudicrousTripe (talk) 22:09, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose Absolutely zero evidence of a primary topic here. Come back in a few months when both the articles have been sitting for a while. Beerest355 Talk 01:50, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose keep the new disambiguation page at the central location -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 04:17, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose Not a significant argument for either to be the primary page. Keep the DAB page and redirect the hatnotes to that in case other uses of the name appear. noq (talk) 17:16, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- And I see another two uses have already been added. noq (talk) 17:33, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. No clear primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:22, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Any additional comments:
- Comment – Beerest355: I provided evidence—more than two-and-a-half times as many views for James Parkes the historian compared to the obscure sportsman, his two-dozen books and hundreds of articles, his foundational contributions to the re-evaluation of Jewish–Christian relations, the fact that his works on antisemitism etc. are cited in such canonical texts as Hannah Arendt's The Origins of Totalitarianism, has had a scholarly biography written about him, has an academic institute named after him—but you've just chosen to ignore it all. You personally might not find the evidence convincing, but that's rather different from there not being any evidence presented. LudicrousTripe (talk) 08:01, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
