Father's name

[edit]

Although the website cited here gives James Langley's father's name as 'Francis Oswald Langley', records (including birth, death, marriage, and his probate, which makes reference to James Maydon Langley, C.B.E.) indicate his name to have been Frederick. This site (although similarly 'unofficial') corroborates this: https://wolverhamptonswar.wordpress.com/2017/11/28/frederick-oswald-langley/

F. O. Langley seems to have been primarily known by his initials, and none of the primary sources quoted in the first-mentioned website indicate his name to be 'Francis', so this is probably simply an error. Of course this is all original research, but for anyone interested this is what the state of affairs appears to be. An internet search reveals no results for 'Francis Oswald Langley' save pertaining to this Wikipedia article (and copies of it elsewhere) and the website cited in this article; Google books finds one (a society directory, the source for the information contained within unclear), but his details clearly pertain to Frederick Oswald Langley, so can be assumed to be the source of the first site's error- but numerous for 'Frederick Oswald Langley', including obituaries in: The Scottish Law Review and Sheriff Court Reports- https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=U95FAQAAIAAJ&q=Frederick+Oswald+Langley+Uppingham&dq=Frederick+Oswald+Langley+Uppingham&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjyrOSMs-TfAhUit3EKHd7FBUgQ6AEIMjAC ('Mr. Frederick Oswald Langley, M.C., a Metropolitan magistrate since 1932, died on 22nd January at the age of sixty-three. as well as his entry in 'Who Was Who'- https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=4ooYAAAAIAAJ&q=Frederick+Oswald+Langley+Uppingham&dq=Frederick+Oswald+Langley+Uppingham&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjyrOSMs-TfAhUit3EKHd7FBUgQ6AEIPzAF

The London Gazette mentions him several times, including here: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31736/supplement/701/data.pdf (Captain (temporary Major) Frederick Oswald Langley, M.C., 6th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment)- note how this matches the details of the career of 'Francis' Oswald Langley on the website cited in this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.2.115.211 (talk) 23:58, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
