Parents and birth
[edit]Contemporary obituaries say that Goodall was 80 when he died, and some obituaries mention that he was born in 1862 (which corresponds with an age of 80), although J. O. Wilson has him as "1860–1942". Looking in the BDM database, there is a James Goodall who was born in 1862, with his parents shown as Sarah and Edward (Registration number 1862/10280). Edward Goodall (Auckland) married Sarah Kidson (Nelson) at Nelson on 7 August 1861, as reported in the Nelson Examiner and New Zealand Chronicle. I suspect that Wilson got it wrong. That registration number resolves for 15 July 1862. Schwede66 23:49, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
