Corrothers Friendship with Dunbar
[edit]There are many sources that discuss Corrothers's long friendship with Dunbar. They include: The Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics, p. 21 "Dunbar's friend James. D. Corrothers" and Black English and the Mass Media, p. 134. There are scores more so I don't know what the problem with the other editor is. Here's The Concise Dictionary of American Literary Biography p. 158. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JRW03 (talk • contribs) 22:19, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
- Please follow Wikipedia policy and guidelines for WP:BRD which I have just linked for you here, and which requires that you establish consensus on the Talk page prior to your making edits on the article page. You need to make your case here before you edit the article page which I am reverting to the neutral version. Please read and follow WP:BRD. MusicAngels (talk) 17:06, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
- The page asks for expansion and I am expanding. What kind of pickle is this? My sources are valid! JRW03 (talk) 22:34, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
- See this? This means my edits are welcome, thank you! JRW03 (talk) 22:34, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
- The writer-stub template does not entitle you to violate BRD guidelines and policies at Wikipedia. You appear to be edit warring on two pages simultaneously (Cordelia Ray and James D. Corrothers) and you appear to be ignoring all guidelines for WP:BRD. You appear to have no knowledge of what a bold edit is, and your appear to have no knowldege of what a revert calling for necessary Talk page discussion is requiring you to do. You are currently serially reverting text against 3RR. Please stop edit warring and under no circumstances are your to go past WP:3RR in violation of those guidelines and policies. Your edit is reverted until you establish consensus on the respective Talk pages. You have already made sequential reverts against WP:EW and you must refrain from violation of WP:3RR. - User:MusicAngels I believe you are in violation of WP:AGF and WP:FOC in your reversions. You have edited without good faith, it seems to me. Let previous edits stand if you can't demonstrate why they are wrong. Assume good faith and focus on content 192.12.13.14 (talk) 15:21, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- I will explain all further edits here, as I hope that everyone will. JRW03 (talk) 18:23, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- Why y'all talking about Dunbar when the offending edit involves Douglass? And is this really worth fighting over? Wait--y'all fighting over Dunbar too. MusicAngels, I do not see where you refuse to accept the source provided by your opponent, so you can be all high and mighty but you have no valid reason to revert here. "You didn't get consensus" isn't valid if there's only two of you, especially not when you appear to be removing valid referenced content. "Corrothers relation to Douglass is not verified on the FA for Douglass" is not a valid argument, if only because Wikipedia is not a source for Wikipedia. Bgwhite, until MusicAngels has a valid argument against accepting that source, their edit should be reverted and they should be blocked for edit warring and disruptive editing if they remove it again. - Drmies Greetings and I appreciate your stepping in. I apologize about the "Nope" as I said but I was frustrated by the pickle of not being able to understand the issue about Corrothers' friendship with Dunbar, which is fairly well established I have ascertained. I will make explain all future edits in depth here but I may take a break.JRW03 (talk) 18:34, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- I didn't see a "nope" that required an apology; in this case I side with you on the content, even if it may hurt my friendship with MusicAngels. Drmies (talk) 18:36, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- JRW; The link being provided for you on my Talk page is from a reliable editor, User:Bgwhite, in the hope that you will read it on WP:BRD (just click his link for it.) My own concern with your claims in your article was and continues to be your claims of "general knowledge" about your favorite poets which is not being confirmed in the Wikipedia articles for W. E. B. Du Bois nor on the article on Paul Laurence Dunbar. Both of those articles you ought to consider to update with your information (if you are confident about it) after you read the link which Bgwhite has provided for you. Editing Corrothers using respected scholarship
[edit]When the time comes to resume editing of Corrothers (I hope soon, User:Drmies User:Bgwhite !) I will state here the sources that I will be using, that I have checked out (or downloaded from) of our local library, and which I have in front of me. They include: Kevin Gaines's "Assimilationist minstrelsy as racial uplift ideology: James D. Corrothers's literary quest for black leadership." from American Quarterly (1993); and Houston A. Baker Jr. 's "Balancing the Perspective, a Look at Early Black American Literary Artistry." Negro American Literature Forum. School of Education, Indiana State University, 1972. I have other sources on order too, including back issue of The Crisis for contemporary views on Corrothers and his influence. Should anyone find these sources objectionable, please say so here. Otherwise I will begin editing drawing on this scholarship. JRW03 (talk) 23:15, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
