Why Crall should be kept

[edit]

Crall won a bronze medal in the two-man event at the 1967 FIBT World Championships. The FIBT World Championships are a major event in the world of bobsleigh. There are several additional sources for this information on this. Chris 21:33, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just because he won a medal at these championships doesn't make him important. Or notable. Let's see the sources. Mike.lifeguard | talk 21:46, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
All you have to do is click on the sources listed in the article and you will see them. Chris 22:03, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll say it bolder, I guess: Just because he won doesn't make him important. Or notable. Those links show that he won - not that he is important or notable. I've added a notability tag as well. Mike.lifeguard | talk 22:07, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
May I direct your attention to WP:BIO and the athletes criteria of notablity. It states that competitors that have competed or played at the highest level in amateur sports (who meet the general criteria for secondary sports published about them). If you consider the FIBT championships amateur sports until the late 1970s, then this would qualify under notability, IMO. Chris 22:18, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
At the very least, the article asserts notability through his winning two at this event, therefore it's not speedy delete criteria. Therefore, I removed the tag. Generally, though, winning a medal at an international event qualifies, but I'd take it to AfD. --UsaSatsui 22:25, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
