Pennsylvania template
[edit]For those puzzled by the Pennsylvania template, James Buchanan was the only president (so far) from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and (so far) the only bachelor president.--DThomsen8 (talk) 20:42, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Seems like there could be a better close up picture, e.g., one without snow, to better see the details of the statue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.253.38.217 (talk) 16:27, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
- Found one on Commons without snow and a bit more detail. Jonathunder (talk) 22:22, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

History

Buchanan served as U.S. Minister to Russia from 1832 to 1833.
- He served in that role until 1849 and was chosen to be Minister to the United Kingdom. I think the year he was appointed Minister to the United Kingdom should be added.
- and since Buchanan was a bachelor. Suggest changing to
and as Buchanan was a bachelor
, otherwise it could be interpreted to mean "after Buchanan was a bachelor". - In January 1916, Senator Blair Lee I introduced a joint resolution to erect a memorial to Buchanan. I think this sentence would better fit on the front of the subsequent paragraph as the second paragraph focuses on 1916 but the first paragraph does not.
- Is The Pennsylvania Society the same one that is mention here? If so, it should be linked.
- Also, what is Perpetual Hall? I couldn't find anything on it on The Pennsylvania Society.
- Meridian Hill Park can be linked upon first mention in the body.
- Due to the bureaucratic debates about the memorial. Should be changed to
Due to bureaucratic debates about the memorial
seeing as this is the first mention of any bureaucratic debates. - Would the first paragraph under later history fit better in the location and design section?
Location and design
[edit]- The statue of Buchannan is bronze, but has faded to green due to patina. The closest street intersection is 15th and W Streets NW and the memorial is to the right when entering the park from the south. The statue on each end of the memorial are granite, and the base is Milfor pink marble. I think these sentences should be reordered as follows:

This would put the sentences describing the statues next to each other and the sentences describing the location next to each other. - The statue on each end of the memorial are granite, and the base is Milfor pink marble should be

Overall this is a well written article. I will do a source review tomorrow. Steelkamp (talk) 16:20, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
