Unpopularity
[edit]I am intrigued, who keeps undoing all the additions on this page? Such as references to level of unpopularity, or Lewis 'The Savious of F1' Hamilton bias? Is it his mum? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.86.140 (talk) 06:59, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
James Allen's mum (surely it is!) removed a Sniff Petrol reference, patronisingly calling Sniff Petrol a minor website. What basis do you have for this? It is well known by F1 enthusiasts, and read by many. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.159.151.64 (talk) 23:03, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- You are presenting an opinion of a satirical self-published blog that is not a reliable source (see also WP:RS, WP:QS). Karpouzi (talk) 05:54, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Looking over recent attempts to add a "criticisms of commentary" section on James Allen, I can see how some of it could be seen as bordering on malicious. However, the solution is to tone it down, not erase the section altogether. James Allen's commentary IS widely criticised among F1 viewers, whether his fans on Wikipedia like it or not. Ok!!! 5 paragraphs, 1 of which is discussing his unpopularity. This guy has petitions calling for his removal, regular criticism on any F1 forums, in motoring publications, and on news pages, IN ADDITION to through Sniff Petrol. 1 paragraph stating valid comments does not constitute hijacking the page. As for comments about 0.0000000000000000000001% of F1 viewers being a member of the Anti-cock Facebook group - what is your point? Not all of them use Facebook, not all Facebook users join groups, not all people joining groups feel strong enough to join his group. I know no F1 fans that aren't ecstatic about his commentary not being part of the move to BBC. Stop getting all upset you love him and most other people don't. He is an unpopular commentator generally, and you loving his irrelevant chat and smug permed head doesn't change that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.154.12.127 (talk) 20:50, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- I have been watching F1 for 20 years and I cannot believe the unfounded malice directed at James Allen, a guy who is clearly a petrolhead like us and has a respected background in F1 journalism. If vitriol should be aimed anywhere it should be at ITV's presentation and editorial obsession with Hamilton. When people start talking about "his mum edited this page" and "permed heads" they lose any credibility in their arguments. If for instance Autosport criticised him then fair enough - but no one serious has. 80.193.155.98 (talk) 22:16, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- It's strange, I watched the Brazilian GP in a hotel in Las Vegas, with a group of strangers. James came up in conversation, and everybody was pleased to be watching the race without his commentary! ITV were indeed Hamilton obsessed, but JA seems as guilty as anyone for this. Autosport, like all magazines, has their own agenda, and I'm sure JA is pals with a lot of the guys there.
James Allen (Formula One Commentator)
[edit]I think this page name will have to be changed soon, despite James being a talented and immensely popular commentator. --92.21.252.10 (talk) 17:06, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Hard to know whether the comment regarding his popularity is serious or not... what about James Allen (Big Issue salesman)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.154.12.127 (talk) 17:32, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- Ignoring the previous comment, it would be sensible to think of a new (encyclopedic) title. Any suggestions? Mark83 (talk) 22:31, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- Possibilities include James Allen (Formula One) and James Allen (motorsport), although Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people) says "It is generally preferred to use a noun that describes the person, rather than an activity, genre, or affiliation (chemist, not chemistry)." Given that he's written three books as well as being a commentator, I guess James Allen (journalist) would also be appropriate. I think any of those three would distinguish him from the other James Allens. DH85868993 (talk) 12:03, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- I think James Allen (journalist) is an excellent suggestion. Mark83 (talk) 15:46, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Celebrity Mastermind
[edit]I see that James Allen's performance on Celebrity Mastermind is under the headings of Career/BBC
Is it justified to have this as part of his 'career'? I think it will be more suited in any other section. Khairul Islam 13:52, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
