Checklist

[edit]
Rate Attribute Review Comment
1. Well-written:
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. see below.
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation. I am currently satisfied with how the article's lead stands now, I will like to have some time deciding about this.
Update: Summarize the history and origin of Jainism tersely into the lead. The lead should be able to stand alone as a concise overview of the most important aspects of Jainism. (06:58, 6 May 2013 (UTC))
 Sorted
2. Verifiable with no original research:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline.
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose). "Community" section needs attention and the line about Jains in Punjab is entirely unreferenced.
Update: Give me some indication of improvement. Elaborated below.
 sorted after much hassle.
2c. it contains no original research. Many unsourced claims (have inline citation neither at the end of the line nor the paragraph) esp. first paragraph of "Cosmology" section and last three paragraphs of "Literature" are all unsourced.
Update: will check the improvements soon.

3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic.
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each. The article says, "Jain scriptures offer extensive guidance on meditation techniques to achieve full knowledge and awareness" while a Jain might be inclined to believe this statement, I don't consider it neutral. It should be something like "The Jains believe.." or "The Jainism preaches that.."
Update:What about this? It still says so, why? Comment below.
 sorted
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content.
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions. The captions of images call the "sculpture of Mahavir" as "Mahavir" himself. I know it might be a non-issue, but nevertheless needs to be sorted.  sorted
7. Overall assessment. I am keeping it on hold so that the improvements could be made. I believe it still has the potential to be a Good-article.
Update:  Done

Hello, Thanks for the review. Additional citations are now there in the article. Rahul Jain (talk) 16:45, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the claim about Jains being in Pakistan, since I could not find a reliable source for that claim. Apart from that, I think the community section is well-sourced now. The inline citation for cosmology and literature section is there now, thanks to Nizil Shah (talk · contribs). In the meditation section, I removed the part which said 'for complete knowledge'. The line now says that the scriptures offers extensive guidance for meditation techniques, which, as far as I understand, has a neutral point of view. Hello there! I must express caution with the decision to pass this article on 1b, for it currently fails to adhere to the manual of style guidelines for lead sections; it does not summarise the rest of the article. I am more than happy to help in rectifying this ommission, but it should not pass GA review without this correction. Best, Midnightblueowl (talk) 20:55, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. If possible, please do help in expanding the lead section. Thanks. Rahul Jain (talk) 03:18, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sort the outstanding issues. Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 14:43, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately I don't have the time at the moment to personally sort this issue. But the lead must adhere to the summary style. If it fails to do so, then it cannot pass GA review. I'd recommend looking at other GA and FA articles on similar topics to see how it is done. Best, Midnightblueowl (talk) 18:10, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The question why do you believe that it is not summarizing the topic? What is missing? Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 06:34, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Authors like Natubhai Shah explain nayavāda by analogy to a description of a car:[50] when we speak of a blue BMW, for instance, we are merely considering the colour and make. This does not imply that the car is devoid of other attributes like engine type, number of cylinders, speed, and price, but represents what is called a naya or partial viewpoint. As a type of critical philosophy, nayavāda holds that philosophical disputes arise out of confusion of standpoints, and the standpoints we adopt are "the outcome of purposes that we may pursue"—although we may not realise it. Paraphrase and preferably omit the analogy about BMW car; it's unnecessary and strays away from the main topic sorted

I have placed the citations where they were needed and removed the analogy of the BMW. Rahul Jain (talk) 17:57, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
